Tuesday 19th July - Frickley Athletic  2-1  York City

The Blues got their first pre-season win under their belts as Gary Marrow's side beat an almost full strength York City side at the Millennium Worldwide Stadium.

After missing Saturday's game against Sheffield United Matt Daly partnered Steve Kennedy in defence whilst Brad Roberts and Martin Woolford were given another run out.

However, it was the Nationwide Conference side that almost took the lead with just nine minutes gone but Clayton Donaldson's glancing header came back off the crossbar. Shortly afterwards Calum Selby played a ball through for Leroy Chambers but York goalkeeper Gary Porter came out quickly to deny him. Selby was the provider again when he picked out a great run from Ashley Scothern to leave the striker clear as Porter came out but Scothern's finish let him down as he lobbed wide of the post. Scorthern was involved again though minutes later when he played the ball across field for Woolford who ran at the York defence before Shooting just wide from 16 yards. On the half hour a great crossfield ball found Richard Tracey unmarked at the far post but his right foot volley went agonisingly wide of the left hand post.

At half time Gary Marrow opted to replace Roberts, Tracey and Woolford with Andy Evans, Ryan Golden and Matt Wilkinson and within two minutes the Blues had taken the lead as STEVE KENNEDY headed in at the far post following a left wing corner. Scorthern then had a chance to increase the lead but he fired over a gaping goal after Porter dropped a high cross under pressure from Chambers. The visitors equalised on 71 minutes when a free-kick from the right was headed in at the back post by Mark Hotte. This led to a burst of pressure from the higher ranked visitors and Gary Ingham had to be alert to block an almost certain goal with his legs from close range. Tracey and Roberts were brought back into the action in place of Daly and Chambers before on 82 minutes Selby saw his 25 yard free kick charged down inside the box, with the ball falling to Kennedy whose deflected 18 yard shot looped onto the bar and out for a corner. Selby's corner was flicked on by Evans for TRACEY to fire the ball into the net at the back post to earn the Blues the win.
