Wednesday 25th July - Frickley Athletic 1-1 York City
Continuing to play two different sides in each half, Blues
manager Billy Heath was satisfied with the overall performance which saw the
Unibond Premier Division side share the spoils with York.
Ryan Morton quickly made his presence felt, carving out an
opening on the left and crossing for Lee Morris to test James Lester with a
glancing header in the second minute.
A 25 yard drive from Ross Greenwood shaved the bar before the
Minstermen took the lead in the 20th minute, some slick passing leading to
Onome Sodje getting the ball on the edge of the penalty area and he shrugged
of a tackle before beating Jon Hood with a low drive.
Former Frickley player, Martyn Woolford, who captained City
in the first half, went close with a first time shot in the 24th minute, but
Frickley gave as good as they got, Morris having a shot blocked on the line
after 40 minutes and Carl Wood going close with a 25 yard drive.
It took little time for the replacement Blues to get into
their stride, Craig Laight having a header well saved in the 51st minute,
while at the other end, Alex Rhodes put an angled shot off target before
Carl; Wood saved Frickley from falling further in arrears in the 63rd
minute, heading a curling cross from Rhodes off the line.
Craig Laight headed in an equaliser for the home side in the
66th minute and they threatened to take control, Danny Davidson beating
three men in a dazzling run four minutes later before being robbed just
inside the penalty area.
Davidson went close with a header in the 70th minute, while
York almost snatched success in the last minute, Sodje getting clear by
snatching at his shot and it sliced wide of the net.
