FRICKLEY ATHLETIC 4-0 WORKSOP TOWN

Gary Marrow was forced to make one change to the side which beat Vauxhall Motors on Saturday with Rob Hanby replacing the unavailable Steve Price. Worksop had former Blues player Steve Oleksewycz in their line-up

Playing with a strong wind and driving rain in the first half, the Blues were almost caught cold in the second minute when Dan Taylor reacted well to block a close range shot from Oleksewycz who seized on a through ball from Holmes. The Blues responded shortly afterwards with Rory Prendergast's deflected left wing cross being volleyed acrobatically wide of the near post by Leroy Chambers. The Tigers were soon back on the attack with Taylor being forced to tip away a looping header from Todd following a free-kick by Ludlam. However, the Blues took the lead with their next attack on 12 minutes. Prendergast whipped in a free-kick from near the right corner flag to SIMON COLLINS who brilliantly volleyed in from around 16 yards out. Six minutes later Hanby blasted wide from near the penalty spot after a Blues corner was only partly cleared. Collins then headed wide of the left hand post following a left-wing corner by Prendergast after he initially forced the corner with a mazy run into the box. Although Worksop managed to have most of the play it was the Blues who were creating the chances. On 22 minutes Prendergast did well down the left before finding Andy Evans in space on the edge of the box but Holmshaw managed to save his low shot at the second attempt. Two minutes later Taylor kept the Blues in the lead when he pulled off a great save to tip over a close range header by Gavin Smith after being picked out by a cross from the right by Todd. Oleksewycz then hit a rising drive over the bar from the edge of the box following a Worksop corner as Worksop finished the half on top.

At the start of the second half most Blues supporters were expecting Worksop to push forward with the wind at their backs and they weren't wrong but, they still failed to create any decent chances. The Blues deservedly punished them on the hour when Prendergast skipped past two challenges down the left before sending over a perfect cross for CHAMBERS to head past Holmshaw from close range. Worskop's heads then visibly dropped, leading to the Blues next serious attack also resulting in a goal as a high cross from the left was dropped by Holmshaw. The loose ball fell to substitute PETE MYERS who calmly controlled the ball before firing past the covering defender from 12 yards. Worksop's Smith then had a cross-cum-shot from the right of the box go narrowly wide of the left hand post with Taylor struggling. The Blues again pushed forward with Collins being unlucky to see his 25 yard shot bobble wide of the right hand post but on 89 minutes the Blues added a fourth. Prendergast shot goalwards from some 30 yards out on the left but the ball was held up in the wind, Holmshaw failed to come and claim it, leaving CHAMBERS to control it and turn and fire into the roof of the net from 8 yards.
