Tuesday 19th July - Frickley Athletic 0-4 Worksop Town Although Worksop deserved their win, the 4-0 scoreline flattered them considering the amount of possession the Blues' enjoyed in the Worksop half of the field. Unfortunately, without Matt Daly, Gary Ingham, Richard Tracey and Alex Callery all missing and with Gary Marrow changing his side around in the second half the Blues were often caught short in defence, leaving the visitors the easiest of chances. After the Blues started well it was Worksop who had the first sight of goal but Mark Wilkinson pushed Paul Dempsey's 18 yard shot around the post. However, Callum Flanagan swooped to score from the corner. Andy Evans and Martin Woolford combined well for Evans to find space on the edge of the box but he shot narrowly wide as he was put under pressure. Minutes later Wilkinson was again called into action as he pulled off a great one-handed save from a close range back header following a free kick. Gary Marrow made several changes at half time with Mark Wilkinson, Matt Wilkinson, Lee Pugh, Steve Robinson and Andy Evans being replaced with Dave Leggett, Dean Foley, Simon Collins, Craig Robinson and Ashley Scothern. Unfortunately, within 25 seconds of the restart Worksop substitute Mick Godber had doubled Worksop's lead, firing in after Leggett had blocked his original shot. Ten minutes later Worksop scored again as the unmarked Dene Cropper headed in from a right wing cross. The Blues then went close twice within a minute as Steve Kennedy headed just wide following a corner and Woolford shot inches wide of the left hand post from 18 yards. Scothern then sent Woolford clear, but going slightly away from goal but he unleashed an angled shot which again went just wide. On 77 minutes Worksop added a fourth on the break, with the Blues' defence again wide open Flanagan fired into the centre of the goal. Minutes later Wooford summed up his, and the Blues', luck for the evening when Scothern sent over a great cross from the left which Woolford met brilliantly with a header in front of goal but the ball cannoned back off the inside of the left hand post and to safety.
