FRICKLEY ATHLETIC 1-5 WORKSOP TOWN

The Blues had two more debutants in the side as Glen Wilson, a forward from Selton, and Alex Willgrass, who has had experience at Scarborough and Kingstonian both came into the side. Missing from Saturday's line-up was Tommy Brooks, James Watson, Peter Own, Joe McAreavey and Matthew Wilkinson.

Worksop had the first attempt of the game with Ludlam firing narrowly wide after Jackson had flicked the ball onto him but the Blues took the lead with their first serious attempt at goal after six minutes. Mark Wilkinson sent along ball up field which the Worksop defence misjudged and WILSON slotted the ball past the advancing Ironside from 20 yards. Worksop responded two minutes later when Ludlam shot over from the edge of the box before the Blues came close to extending their lead when both Chris Hurst and Willgrass had efforts blocked inside the box. The visitors capitalised on this and drew level on 13 minutes. A series of one touch passes was instigated by Waddle which finished with Jackson laying the ball back to Johnson who fired past Wilkinson from 8 yards. Johnson went close again for the Tigers when Waddle's free-kick had been blocked but his 25 yard effort went wide. Waddle, who was beginning to dominate Worksop's attacking moves, then sent over a cross from the right which Marsh headed just over and then Ludlam put a 30 yard free-kick high and wide as the visitors started to dominate. And it came as no surprise when they took the lead on 31 minutes. Again Waddle was the architect, chipping a cross into the box for Whitehead to score. A minute later Duffty missed a glorious chance to equalise when Ian Edge sent over a deep cross from the left which eluded Ironside but Duffty could only head over the bar from 2 yards out with the goal at his mercy. Frickley started to enjoy more possession as they tried to take the game to Worksop more but their only real chance of the rest of the half came in injury time when Hurst played a brilliant cross-field ball to pick out Edge on the left, who cut inside and shot but his effort was well saved by Ironside.

The second half saw the Blues attack early on with Hurst feeding Edge on the left before getting on the end of Edge's deep cross but his header went just wide. The Tigers struck back with Waddle picking out Jackson with a cross from the right but his header went over the bar but on 53 minutes Waddle had a say in Worksop's third of the night. He beat Rob Hanby on the edge of the box before brilliantly threading the ball through to Johnson who squared for the unmarked Whitehead to fire in. The visitors then seemed to sit back a little as the Blues again enjoyed more possession before they stepped up a gear again on 72 minutes. Waddle picked out Jackson with a superb pass and, with the Assistant Referee flagging for a foul, Jackson looped a 30 yard shot over Wilkinson into the top right hand corner. Two minutes later the Blues misery was complete as Wilkiinson twice pulled off superb saves to deny Whitehead and Jackson before the rebound fell to Whitehead whose goalbound header somehow found its way past Martin Fox and Mark Lafferty on the line. Frickley kept plugging away and Wilson and Collins combined for Collins to fire over from 25 yards before the last real effort of the game came on 82 minutes when Wilson's 20 yard drive was turned around the post by Ironside.
