Tuesday 11th March - Frickley Athletic 3-1 Worksop Town

Frickley stretched their unbeaten run in the UniBond Premier Division to nine matches with this deserved triumph over Worksop at a windswept Westfield Lane.

A strong gale lashed across the pitch, with the Blues having the advantage in the first half, which ended with them level, but the spoils were acquired by a brace of superb strikes on the resumption.

A free-kick by Chris White was headed off the line by Adam Fretwell in the ninth minute but, from the corner kick on the right, White curled the ball into the net to put the home side ahead, and then put another one just in front of the near post.

In the 19th minute, Chris Gowen lobbed a free-kick which saw Lee Morris slide in at the right hand post but the ball finished in the side netting, and another corner kick from Chris White was headed from under the bar by Ryan Ludlam after 27 minutes.,

Worksop showed their fangs for the first time in the 34th minute when Tom Burridge had a low shot blocked, and a mistake by Phil Lindley in the 41st minute let in Andy White who crossed for Paul Stansfield to fire wide from 12 yards.

The visitors equalised a minute later, Andy White beating the off-side trap and rounding Jon Hood before putting the ball into the net.

Hood make a couple of fine saves from David Cockerill and Stansfield in the opening minutes after the interval while, at the other end, Rob Pell controlled a free-kick from Steve Robinson in the 56th minute before firing just over the target from 20 yards.

The Blues regained the advantage in the 62nd minute, Danny Walsh whipping in a free-kick which Dean Jones headed towards goal but it was blocked although a diving header by Jonathan Groome powered the rebound into the net.

Jones was injured and was replaced by Chris Davies, with Town trying to get on  terms and Hood doing well to hold a strong 30 yard free-kick from Cockerill in the 70th minute.

Chris White capped a brilliant display in the 76th minute when he collected the ball on the left, ghosted past his marker and rounded goalkeeper Steve Hernandez before stroking the ball into the net.

It took the wind out of Worksop's sails and there was almost another goal five minutes later, Pell picking out Morris who threaded the ball through for Danny Walsh to find the net, only to be ruled fractionally off-side.
