Tuesday 9th September - Worksop Town 3-0 Frickley Athletic With both Chris Kamara and Paul Hurrell both being unfit after picking up injuries on Saturday Phil Sharpe brought the fit again Paul Marquis and Mark Vickerage into the starting line-up whilst Dan Sheriffe made his first appearance as a substitute. It is hoped Kamara will be fit for Saturday but Hurrell could be out for around a month as he has a suspected broken bone in his foot. Worksop started the game on the offensive with recent signing from Wakefield (& Emley) Simeon Bambrook shooting narrowly wide after just 5 minutes. The Blues responded 6 minutes later with Vickerage having his angled drive well saved by Ian Bowling, although the spin on the ball almost carried it over the line but for Ryan Davis' clearance. However, a a minute later Worksop took the lead when Bambrook's cross from the right was headed in at the back post by Linden Whitehead. Matty Cauldwell then went close to increasing the lead when he cut in from the left before unleashing a 20 yard drive that Mark Samways pushed away. The Blues then started to force Worksop on the back foot more as the half wore on but they were unsettled on 30 minutes when Kieran O'Brien's late challenge on Neil Glasser saw him suffer an injury which forced him to be replaced by Sheriffe. On 35 minutes Sheriffe played the ball in to Colley from the right. Colley turned and shot from 6 yards but his effort was blocked by a defender on the line and looped out for a corner. Just as the Blues started to look like they could get something out of the game Worksop scored again, this time with Paul Sykes heading in from a left wing corner on 54 minutes. Five minutes later yet another similar goal was scored as former Blues' player Mark Haran headed in a cross from the right following a foul by Gary Hatto. Lee Morris was then subjected to a bad tackle from behind which forced him to be replaced by Mark Lafferty whilst six minutes later Vickerage was forced off to be replaced by Jacques Joblon. With no recognised forward left in the side Sharpe pushed Colley up front and he almost had an immediate impact as he made a good run down the right before lifting the ball across the edge of the box from where Phil Lindley hit a powerful shot which cannoned back off the crossbar and fell to Steve Robinson who shot over from 15 yards. This was to be the Blues last chance in a game which they gave almost as much as they got but were punished for poor defending of crosses into the box. Frickley Athletic : Samways, Pugh, O'Brien (Sheriffe 30), Colley, Jackson, Marquis, Robinson, Lindley, Morris (Lafferty 61), Vickerage (Joblon 67), Hatto. Att: 650 Ref : Mr C Evans (Lincoln) |
