Tuesday 15th April - Witton Albion 3-0 Frickley Athletic

Stung by a fourth minute strike, Frickley made a brave effort to beard the UniBond Premier Division leaders Witton in their own den on Tuesday but returned home empty-handed.

With Dean Jones and Chris White both injured, Blues manager Billy Heath brought Adam Pollock in at right back, Chris Davies into the midfield and Lee Morris came back into the attack.

Albion got a flier when Junior Brown beat Pollock on the left and whipped in a cross for Alex Brown to head past Jon Hood.

Rod Thornley rounded Chris Hilton in the 12th minute but put his effort wide, while Hood did well to hold an angled drive from Mark Peers a minute later.

A free-kick from Danny Walsh was flicked on by Jonathan Groome towards Rob Pell in the 26th minute, only for Tony Barrass to get in a vital interception, while a left wing cross from Chris Gowen seven minutes later was only half cleared but Chris Davies put his 20 yard drive over the target.

Walsh put Neil Towler through in the 35th minute although his 12 yard left footed shot struck keeper John Kennedy's legs and rebounded to safety, and Lee Morris then got clear but was forced by the pitch to take an extra touch before firing across the face of goal.

At the other end, an angled shot from Mark Peers was parried by Hood in the 42nd minute before Peers squared the ball for Adam Warlow to tap in from close range and improve the Albion advantage two minutes later.

Frickley refused to give in, Walsh playing Rob Pell through in the 49th minute and he lobbed Kennedy only for Dave McPherson to get back and clear off the line.

Witton grabbed a third goal in the 61st minute when Hood could only parry a cross from Warlow and McPherson headed in the rebound.

It took a superb tackle from Adam Pollock to stop Warlow after he had broken clear in the 69th minute, while the Blues battled, Davies shaving the bar with a 25 yard free-kick four minutes later.

Another free-kick from Davies in the 80th minute was only half cleared but Pollock fired wide from 15 yards with only the keeper to beat.
