Saturday 13th August - Frickley Athletic  2-0  Winterton Rangers

The Blues completed their pre-season schedule with a comfortable 2-0 win over NCEL First Division side at the Millennium Worldwide Stadium this afternoon to set themselves up ready for the start of the season proper next weekend.

It took the Blues until the 19th minute to really trouble the visitor's goal, when Martyn Woolford brilliantly flicked the ball over his head on the edge of the box to leave himself in space but his shot flew just over the bar.

The Blues were unfortunate not to take the lead on the half hour when a great cross field ball from Steve Kennedy picked out the run of Steve Robinson down the right. He sprinted clear of the left back to cut inside and see his 18 yard shot deflected just wide for a corner. When Calum Selby's flag kick came over it was headed against the near post by Woolford with Selby picking up the loose ball, evading a couple of challenges and chipping the ball in to Ashley Scothern but he scuffed his shot wide from close range.

Three minutes later Richie Butler played a ball over the defence which sent Woolford sprinting clear down the left as Winterton 'keeper Ben Simpson came out. Woolford came out on top in the challenge for the ball but as he composed himself and fired goalwards from 18 yards Billy Walmsley made a brilliant diving headed clearance to diver the ball wide for a corner.

Right on the stroke of half time Woolford was involved again when he picked up Butler's ball down the left to run at his marker before cutting inside and firing in an 18 yard shot which Simpson pushed around the post.

The Blues finally opened the scoring after 66 minutes when a good run down the right from Scothern saw him send over a perfect cross for CHAMBERS to fire in from 8 yards.

Five minutes later Winterton troubled Gary Ingham for the first time but Ingham parried Mark Whitehouse's angled shot.

On 78 minutes Selby floated over a free-kick which Simpson failed to punch clear with WOOLFORD being the first to react as he swivelled to fire in from 16 yards.
