Wednesday 13th September - Whitby Town 3-2 Frickley Athletic

Two goals in the first 13 minutes from Tom Raw led to Frickley's downfall as they suffered a 3-2 defeat at Whitby Town tonight. Mark Ward pulled a goal back before a controversial penalty from Danny Brunskill put Whitby 3-1 up. Alex Callery  curled in a 35 yard free kick to give Frickley hope and Mark Crossfield had an effort cleared off the line in stoppage time.

Gary Marrow brought the available again Dean Foley back into the side to partner Steve Kennedy in the centre of the defence with Calum Selby moving into the midfield.

It was Selby who had the first strike at goal after 4 minutes but his low 25 yard shot clipped the outside of the left hand post. However, within minutes Whitby carved open the Blues defence with a good move that ended with Tom Raw beating Gary Ingham from 12 yards after 8 minutes. Five minutes later it was 2-0 as Raw fired in a shot from a tight angle which went just inside the far post. The home side were well on top but Remo Nesa had a chance to level the scores when Rob Pell sent him clear but he couldn't lift his shot over David Campbell. Minutes before half time Nesa ought to have reduced the arrears when he did well to get on the end of Alex Callery's cross from the right to the far post but he lifted the ball over the bar from inside the 6 yard box.

Frickley did pull a goal back on 62 minutes when Callery got away down the right to cross for MARK WARD to flick the ball just inside the far post. However, 7 minutes later Tracey was harshly adjudged to have brought down Anthony Ormerod inside the box and Danny Brunskill scored from the penalty spot. Callery raised Frickley's hoped again on 69 minutes when he expertly curled a 35 yard free-kick into the top right hand corner to set up a grandstand finish. Callery then had an 18 yard shot deflected just wide whilst Ward headed inches wide of the near post from a Selby corner. Nesa shot just over 25 yards whilst into stoppage time Nesa's cross found Mark Crossfield but his flicked shot from 12 yards was cleared off the line by Matty Appleby.
