Saturday 12th October - Frickley Athletic 1-7 Whitby Town Both Craig Elkin and Scott Kerr were considered fit enough to play whilst Remo Nesa was fit enough for a place on the bench although a one or two players were still carrying knocks. The Blues had the better of the opening exchanges, with Kerr having a 20 yard volley go straight to Whitby keeper Dowell in the second minute whilst seconds later Dixon has forced to concede a corner under pressure from Lee Morris. Nigel Hemstock's poor corner was sliced up into the air by Veart. Paul Marquis headed back across goal to LEE MORRIS whose close range shot was clawed back from behind the line by Dowell but the Assistant Referee signalled the 'goal'. Three minutes later the scores should have been level when a great ball in from Zoll picked out the run of Robinson but Richard Siddall pulled off a great save to block Robinson's header. On 12 minutes the Blues were denied a certain penalty when Laws handled the ball in the box but neither the Referee nor his Assistant were in a position to see the offence, leaving laws to get away with his offence. This was to prove costly as on 18 minutes a cross from the right went between Siddall and Jon Wordsworth for Wilford to knock in. As if conceding the equaliser wasn't bad enough, Wordsworth was injured in the process and was replaced by Craig Marsh. Whitby's next attack, eight minutes later, saw a good cross from the right tease Siddall, enabling Veart to nip between Hancock and marsh to head in. Just two minutes later Siddall came racing out of his goal to try and reach a long ball down the Whitby left but was beaten to it by Dunning who lifted the ball into the box for Wilford to tap into an empty net. After this burst the Blues seemed to steady the ship a little and forced a bit of play around the Whitby box but without really creating any chances until first half stoppage time when Kerr made room for himself in the box to shoot but Dowell blocked the shot with his legs and the follow-up was deflected over the bar. At half time Elkin was replaced by Nesa whilst Jackson moved up front alongside Evans and Morris. Shortly after the break Gowen got past Reid down the left and sent over a great cross which evaded Dowell but Williams managed to head behind for a corner ahead of Morris. From the corner Morris knocked the ball over from close range. The Blues then forced another corner which fell to Jackson at the back of the box. he did well to turn and lay the ball back towards Morris at the near post but Dowell smothered it at his feet. On the hour Whitby increased their lead when Wilford cut into the box from the right and, as he shaped to shoot, Zoll took the ball off him to his an unstoppable shot into the top right hand corner. From then onwards the Blues defence just fell apart. On 62 minutes another mix-up in the Blues defence saw Wilford score from close range whilst on 68 minutes Zoll beat several challenges down the left of the box to cut the ball back into the danger area but Gowen headed over to concede a corner. A minute later a long kick from Dowel saw Zoll break clear and bear down on goal but Siddall did well to save with his legs. The final two goals came in the last three minutes with Ure breaking clear on 88 minutes but Siddall half blocked his shot with an outstretched hand only for Ure to carry on and lay the ball back to Skelton who scored from 10 yards. Then on 89 minutes Ure was left all on his own by a shambolic defence to score low past Siddall.
