Saturday 15th October - Warrington Town 1-1 Frickley Athletic After taking an early lead through Martyn Woolford after just 7 minutes the Blues (or whites, on the day) gave a largely lacklustre display which enabled their hosts equalise on 70 minutes when Steve Robinson's woeful back-pass let in Phil Howard to score. The two sides will now meet again on Tuesday evening at the Millennium Worldwide Stadium. Gary Marrow made just one change to the starting line-up as captain Steve Kennedy returned in place of the injured Simon Collins. Leroy Chambers was named as substitute after serving his 3-match suspension whilst Rob Pell and Ryan Golden were also fit enough to be named as substitutes. Frickley took the lead with the first real attack of the game from either side after 7 minutes. Alex Callery burst clear down the right and he pulled the ball back across the box to WOOLFORD who controlled it some 15 yards out but was unable to get his shot in. However, after jinking backwards ands forwards a three or four times to avoid challenges he finally found space to get in a shot and fired a low drive inside the left hand post. A good run from Lee Pugh after 28 minutes saw him play the ball through for Ashley Scothern but he lifted his shot over the bar from the edge of the box. Minutes later Pugh was involved again as Phil Lindley teed him up on the edge of the box but Pugh's shot flew just wide of the left hand post. Just before half time the home side finally threatened Gary Ingham's goal when substitute Paul McNally fired in a first time shot from 18 yards which was straight at Ingham whilst a minute later McNally sent Graeme Mitchell clear but he shot well over the bar from 20 yards. The second half was very much of a non-event. Frickley played as if they thought they'd done enough to win the tie whilst Warrington, although not really threatening, kept plugging away in the hope of getting a lucky break. Frickley lost Callery with a knock after 59 minutes and he was replaced by Ryan Golden who came on down the left with Woolford switching to the right. Leroy Chambers then replaced Andy Evans as Gary Marrow tried to pep up his attack but Warrington got their lucky break on 70 minutes when a hopeful long clearance saw Steve Robinson try to chest the ball back to Ingham but the ball fell woefully short as Phil Howard nipped in to round Ingham and roll the ball into an empty net. Rob Pell then replaced Scothern as Frickley threw everything into the final 5 minutes in search of the winner. And the travelling Frickley fans thought it had arrived almost 2 minutes into stoppage time when Calum Selby's free-kick from the left found Pell who knocked the ball down to Woolford but his shot from 8 yards was somehow scrambled off the line and past the post for a corner. Selby's corner was met by the head of Matt Daly but his looping header bounced back into play off the top of the crossbar.
