Monday 28th March - Wakefield-Emley 1-0 Frickley Athletic The Blues suffered their second defeat of the Easter Weekend as Matt Daly's first half mistake let in Nicky Wood to score the only goal of a poor match this afternoon. Gary Marrow returned Andy Evans to the starting line-up with Wael Nazha absent through injury whilst Ashley Scothern (who played one game for the Blues against Guiseley earlier this season) came in for a place on the bench. The Blues ought to have taken the lead with just 11 minutes gone when Lee Pugh's right wing cross was flicked on first by Leroy Chambers and then by Simon Collins for Andy Evans to burst into the box but he drilled his weak left foot shot wide of the right hand post. Three minutes later Neil Ashley's left win corner evaded everyone but was picked up by Evans who immediately sent over a good cross which Collins headed over the bar from 6 yards. However, the home side took the lead in virtually their first venture near the Blues' goal. A corner from the right fell to Daly in his sown box but as he tried to bring the ball clear he appeared to lose control and gift the ball to Wood who picked his pot to beat Gary Ingham from 15 yards. Another Blues' error almost gifted Wakefield a second goal before the break when Daly went to meet a hopeful punt forward which Steve Kennedy was nearer to. Unfortunately Kennedy decided to cushion a header back to where Daly should have been, allowing Adam Muller clear run at goal but the striker shot woefully wide from the edge of the box as Ingham came out. The second half continued in a scrappy fashion, devoid of excitement until Gary marrow introduced Scothern for Woolford on the hour. This seemed to spur the Blues on a little more as they started to enjoy more possession, although still were struggling to create many chances. Although, on 67 minutes, the Blues could feel hard done to when Wakefield 'keeper Trueman collected a free-kick and immediately kicked it against Daly on the edge of the box but the referee bizarrely ruled that Daly had impeded Trueman who was fortunate to get away with his error. As time wore on the Blues continually forced Wakefield back into and around their box but were still struggling to create a clear cut chance. However, on 79 minutes Ashley played the ball down the left to Evans who flicked the ball on for Collins who was blatantly dragged away from the ball inside the box but the referee waved away claims for a penalty. In the last few minutes Ingham was called on to block a free-kick from Marc Thompson and then collect the rebound from Muller.
