Tuesday 9th November - Frickley Athletic 0-1 Wakefield-Emley The Blues relinquished their hold on the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup following a below-par display against local rivals Wakefield-Emley. The first half was severely lacking in commitment and, although the Blues showed more commitment in the second half the damage had already been done and they couldn't find a way through a resolute Wakefield-Emley defence. Gary Marrow was able to recall Steve Robinson into the side whilst Dean Foley also started, alongside Steve Kennedy in central defence. Lee Pugh and Chris Fawcus were the 2 players to miss out and had to be content with a place on the subs. bench. In a game of relatively few chances Wakefield were the first to threaten after just 4 minutes when a glanced header from a right wing croner sailed just wide. The first time the Blues troubled the visitor's goal was on 9 minutes when Paul Cuss came to punch clear Robinson's long throw-in but missed it completely, with the ball bouncing over the crossbar which Simon Collins waiting to pounce on the line. The Blues had a good claim for a penalty waved away on 15 minutes when Matt Moran's corner was headed back across goal towards Adam Russell who was clearly pushed out of the way but the referee ignored the claims. The visitors went close from another corner on 22 minutes when a corner fell to Adam Muller just 6 yards out but Calum Selby did well to deflect Muller's shot wide. Wakefield took the lead on 34 minutes when a throw-in down the right led to the ball being cut back to Andy Wright who drilled a low shot past Gary Ingham from 16 yards. The Blues started the second half with a little more conviction but were still struggling to make much impression on the Wakefield defence. Marrow brought on Dale Rimmington in place of Higgins but almost immediately the visitors had a great chance to double their lead as Muller broke clear but Ingham came out to bloke well at his feet. Lee Pugh then came on in place of Adam Oldham, with Moran moving up front. Within minutes Pugh's through ball somehow found its way between former Frickley defender Phil Lindley and Rob Tonks and Moran chased it only for Cuss to clear off his boot end. The loose ball fell to Rimmington on the half way line but his shot drifted wide of the left hand post. It was to be too little, too late as the Blues failed to create another attempt on goal and bowed out of the competition with a poor showing.
