Saturday 1st December - Stamford 4-2 Frickley Athletic

After twice reducing the deficit, Frickley pressed for an equaliser at Stamford only to be undone by a breakaway strike in the first minute of stoppage time.

Steve Heath returned to the Blues back four after a long absence through injury, although the home side were the first to threaten when a free-kick from the right presented Martin Wormall with a free header at the far post but it was well saved by Jon Hood.

The Frickley goalkeeper spread himself well to block a shot from 12 yards by Tyrone Kirk after 29 minutes, and a further five minutes elapsed before Chris Hilton seized on a loose ball near the halfway line and darted upfield to drill a 22 yard drive inches wide in Frickley's first dangerous raid.

Danny Walsh shaved the bar with a 20 yard blockbuster in the 35th minute, but Stamford responded and took the lead a minute later when Liam Messam was put through on the left and went past Hood before putting the ball into the net from a tight angle.

A cross from the right was missed by Steve Robinson in the 49th minute and Martin Wormall tapped in from close range at the far post to improve the Stamford lead,

Although Walsh went close again with a 20 yard shot, the home side got a third goal after 53 minutes, Mettam converting a penalty, awarded after he was brought down by Hilton.

Steve Oleksewycz, who had come on for Phil Lindley, provided a ray of hope on the hour when he headed in a curling corner kick from the right by Chris White, and a long throw by Hilton five minutes later was knocked on by Oleksewycz for Lee Morris to strike from six yards.

The Blues should have been level a minute later when a cross from the left by White was met by a flying header from Morris but the ball flashed a whisker wide of the left hand post.

Frickley were applying the pressure and Dean Jones produced a looping header from another centre by White in the 83rd minute which landed on the roof of the net.

In the first minute of stoppage time, Mettam beat Hood to a long ball and went past him before pulling the ball back for Tony Battersby to grab Stamford's fourth goal.
