Saturday 27th September - Frickley Athletic 0-0 Shildon

A poor performance in a poor game saw the Blues finish up having to travel to Shildon for a replay on Wednesday evening after drawing today's game. Although the overall play was poor, both sides missed good chances to win the game with Antony Jackson twice hitting the bar for the Blues whilst Shildon twice had players clean through on goal only to fluff their final shots.

Phil Sharpe brought back Karl Colley who has recovered after injury with Gary Hatto dropping to substitute.

After just 5 minutes Colley headed straight at John Jackson from Chris Kamara's cross whilst good play down the right between Dan Sheriffe and Lee Morris saw Morris play the ball inside for Gerard McCargo but his flick to Sheriffe was behind him. On 28 minutes Shildon's David Bayles let fly from 25 yards but Mark Samways blocked it with his chest after the ball bounced awkwardly off the hard ground. Minutes later Gary Barnes turned and shot over the bar. McCargo then had a shot on the turn blocked before Kieron O'Brien did well to take the ball off Adam Reid as he threatened to break clear in the box. Just before the break Shildon had the ball in the net but the 'goal' was rightly ruled out for offside.

After the break Morris headed just wide of the far post from Colley's deep cross from the right whilst at the other end Samways caught an angled drive from Barnes. Just after the hour O'Brien's free-kick was flicked on by Colley to Phil Lindley whose ball across the face of goal was too high for Sheriffe. On 65 minutes Pugh got into the box from the left but his cross saw Stuart Preston's diving header go wide of the left hand post. Jackson then headed over when unmarked following a Gary Hatto free-kick. Hatto then sent over a cross from the left which Jackson met with a header that came back off the bar and Jackson then hit the bar again from the follow-up. Samways then got down well to save a 25 yard free-kick from David Bayles but on 74 minutes Samways scuffed a back pass straight to Barnes but his first time shot from 25 yards flew well over the bar. Sharpe then pushed Colley up front to try and create a much needed goal but it almost came at the the other end when Lindley gave the ball away to Barnes who bore down on Samways' goal but fired well wide. His strike partner Reid found himself clear on 81 minutes but he stabbed his shot straight at Samways . On 84 minutes Sheriffe got clear but was brought down just outside the box. Hatto stepped up to take the free-kick with 'keeper Jackson pulling off a great save to tip Hatto's effort round the post. Barnes should have snatched the winner in the last minute but Samways pulled of a great save to block Barnes' close range header.
