Tuesday 15th November - Rossington Main 1-2 Frickley Athletic The Blues progressed to the quarter final stage of the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup with a fairly comfortable 2-1 victory over Rossington Main. Gary Marrow made a few changes to the line-up with Phil Lindley moving to left back, Steve Robinson returning at right back and Ashley Scothern and Martyn Woolford replacing Leroy Chambers and Andy Evans up front. Woolford made his presence felt as early as the sixth minute when he raced past three Rossington players to burst clear but 'keeper Adam Valente was quickly off his line to smother the ball at Woolford's feet. However, the home side took the lead in bizarre fashion after 15 minutes when Simon Collins saw his clearance blocked by former Frickley forward Paul Bradley with the ball ricocheting into the net past a stranded Gary Ingham. Frickley responded with Woolford seeing his glancing header beat Valente but the ball was headed off the line. Then Alex Callery's chip to the far post being headed over by Woolford whilst on 27 minutes Callery saw his corner cleared off the line but when the ball was played back into the box COLLINS got the vital touch in a scramble which saw the ball just cross the line before being hacked clear. Five minutes into the second half Callery saw yet another corner beat valente but be cleared off the line with Scothern putting the loose ball into the side netting. Minutes later Woolford did well down the right before cutting into the box and firing in an angled shot which Valente blocked with his legs. Scothern and Callery were then replaced by Evans and Chambers with Woolford moving out wide on the right. On 58 minutes Robinson sent over an inviting cross which EVANS headed inside the near post to finally put the Blues ahead. Three minutes later Woolford saw his angled 18 yard shot beat Valente but hit the top of the crossbar whilst on 65 minutes Woolford again Valente but this time the ball came back off the right hand post with Golden just unable to reach the loose ball. On 72 minutes Chambers did brilliantly down the right to sprint clear before sending over a cross which was slightly behind Evans but he did well to loop a header over Valente who then recovered to palm the ball away before it crossed the line. The Blues had to endure a nervous last few minutes as Rossington enjoyed more possession but Gary Ingham wasn't seriously troubled.
