Saturday 7th January - Rossendale United  1-3  Frickley Athletic

Second half goals from Martyn Woolford, Lee Pugh and Alex Callery saw the Blues triumph 3-1 at Rossendale United this afternoon to ease through to the Quarter Finals of the UniBond League Chairman's Cup. The Blues are joined in next week's draw by Bamber Bridge, Bishop Auckland, Blyth Spartans, Chorley, Ossett Albion, Ossett Town and Woodley Sports.

With Steve Kennedy still suffering the after effects of his facial injury picked up at Farsley Celtic Gary Marrow brought the fit again James Stansfield back into the defence whilst Alex Callery, Simon Collins and Rob Pell were all left on the subs. bench with Ryan Golden, Neil Ashley and Andy Evans given the chance to impress.

The first half was very much a non-event with very few attempts at goal at either end of the pitch, although Rossendale's Dave Felgate did do well to save Evans' header after just 11 minutes following Lee Pugh's cross whilst Golden blasted an angled shot over the bar after 17 minutes following a good run down the left from Martyn Woolford. And just before half time Phil Lindley almost caught at Felgate with a dipping 20 yard volley which Felgate left but it dipped just wide of the left hand post.

The second half was a different story as minutes after Pugh had seen his 18 yard shot through a crowded penalty area go just wide of the post, Woolford opened the scoring on 53 minutes. Steve Robinson played a good ball down the right of the box for Woolford who fired in angled shot which Felgate blocked but the ball came back to WOOLFORD who side-stepped a defender before firing into the bottom left hand corner. Two minutes later Rossendale forced Gary Ingham to make his first real save of the game when he reacted well to push Stuart Tulloch's angled shot from 10 yards around the post. However, on 63 minutes the Blues extended their lead. Evans flicked on a clearance to substitute Pell who played the ball inside for PUGH who ran through the heart of the Rossendale defence to steer a left footed shot past Felgate from just inside the box. Nine minutes later the game was all but over as Callery was pulled back some 20 yards out with the referee awarding a free-kick which CALLERY took himself to curl into the bottom right hand corner. On 79 minutes Ingham was called into action again as he pushed a low angled shot from Edgington round the post but he was beaton on 80 minutes when Eatock and Barker found themselves clear of the Blues' defence who were strongly appealing for offside. Eatock continued, drew Ingham and squared the ball to Barker to score into an empty net. Five minutes later the home side missed a great chance to set up a tense last 5 minutes as Barker got goal-side of Nicky Heinemann to turn a deep cross goalwards but Ingham couldn't hold on to the ball out full stretch, dropping the ball at Eatock's feet but he only succeeded in blasting the ball over from 5 yards.
