Saturday 26th November - Frickley Athletic 0-2 Radcliffe Borough

This game is available on DVD/Video - See Club Shop

Gary Marrow was forced to make one change to the starting line-up as Dean Foley replaced the injured Simon Collins whilst Rob Pell was fit enough for a place on the substitutes bench.

The Blues were almost caught cold within the first few minutes when Steve Foster got clear down the right and cut into the box but he dragged his angled shot across the face of goal. Minutes later Paul McGuire found himself unmarked at the far post following a quickly taken free-kick but he sliced his shot wide of the far post from 12 yards. With 10 minutes gone the Blues carved out their first chance of the game when Phil Lindley picked out Martyn Woolford's run between Steve Rose and McGuire but Mcguire did enough to prevent Woolford getting in a clean strike, allowing Danny Hurst to save comfortably. Shortly afterwards the Blues were unfortunate not to take the lead following a swift move from the edge of their own box. Alex Callery won the ball and release Lindley who immediately played the ball forward for Woolford on half way. He in turn fed Lee Pugh who picked out Leroy Chambers' run as Rose failed to cut out the pass but Hurst was off his line quickly to smother Chambers' shot from just inside the box. The ball came back to Chambers who chipped the ball to the far post but his cross was just too high for Woolford. Calum Selby then put a 25 yard free-kick just over the bar as the Blues looked to be starting to stamp their authority on the game.

The Blues had a few close calls in the early stages on the second half but Gary Ingham came out clutching the ball on each occasion. On 56 minutes Ingham pulled off a great one-handed save to tip Foster's back header over the bar and seconds later Gary Marrow made a double substitution bringing on Rob Pell and Andy Evans for Chambers and Selby. But just two minutes later Foster put the visitors ahead as he got goal-side of Steve Robinson to lift the ball over Ingham from 15 yards following a cross from the right. Four minutes later Foley made a mess of trying to clear Rod Thornley's cross from the right and only succeeded in slicing the ball into the path of Foster who volleyed brilliantly on the turn passed Ingham to double Radcliffe's lead. Within sixty seconds the Blues could tell it wasn't going to be their day when Pell met Nicky Heinemann's deep free-kick with a header from 18 yards that looped over Hurst but struck the top of the crossbar. As time started to run out Lindley saw his 20 yard shot saved by Hurst whilst Woolford failed to connect properly with his angled 18 yard short but it still forced Hurst to push the ball around the post. Woolford was then denied again by Hurst at the near post as he met Callery's cross from the left but again Hurst pushed ball around the post and Hurst was called into action again moments later as he was forced to push Pell's 25 yard chip over the bar. At the other end Ingham brought off a great save to deny Thornley but Hurst was soon in the action again to once again thwart Woolford as he blocked his close range shot on the turn.
