Saturday 25th February - Radcliffe Borough 0-3 Frickley Athletic

The Blues regained second place in the table with a comfortable 3-0 win at Radcliffe Borough this afternoon. Steve Kennedy (left) gave the Blues a 19th minute lead before Martyn Woolford added two further goals in the second half after 52 and 83 minutes.

Gary Marrow kept faith with the side that started against Runcorn FC Halton last Saturday and his faith almost paid off within 6 minutes of the kick off as Martyn Woolford turned and fired in a shot from the edge of the box which Danny Hurst did well to tip against the outside of the left hand post and out for a corner. Alex Callery's flag-kick was cleared back to him but when he returned the ball to the danger area it struck Simon Collins and rolled agonisingly wide of the left hand post with Hurst wrong footed. Minutes later Woolford did well down the right before cutting the ball into the box for Lee Pugh but Hurst was out quickly to block Pugh's effort with his legs. However, the Blues broke the deadlock on 19 minutes when Callery sent over a free-kick from the left which KENNEDY headed in at the far post. Chances started to dry up but the Blues remained in control until the last ten minutes of the half when the home side finally started to threaten Gary Ingham's goal but the only real chance they created fell to Tony Whealing but his low 18 yard shot was well saved by Ingham.

The Blues extended their lead just 7 minutes into the second half when Callery slipped the ball through the Radcliffe defence for WOOLFORD to confidently clip the ball past the advancing Hurst from just inside the box.  Four minutes later Hurst was again in the action as he brilliantly turned Collins' 25 yard free-kick over the bar. The home side threatened brieflywith Matty O'Neill putting an angled shot across the face of Ingham's goal after 63 minutes and Ingham comfortably saving a low 20 yard free-kick from Neil Tolson three minutes later but the Blues added a deserved third goal on 83 minutes as Callery made a great run through the midfield which left two Radcliffe players tackling each other before releasing Chris Adam who cut in from the left before firing in an angled first time shot which Hurst blocked but WOOLFORD stole in to knock the rebound into the empty net. In stoppage time Radcliffe's Martyn Forrest found himself with a clear sight of Ingham's goal but he sliced his shot horribly wide.
