Questions & Answers Page Welcome to the new Questions & Answers page. In response to supporters posting queries on the Forum this page has been set up for supporters to ask the Manager or Club Officials questions. Once enough questions (around 8 - 10) have been submitted the questions will be put to the relevant person (s) and both the questions and answers will be published on this page. It is envisaged that this could happen on a fortnightly or monthly basis, depending on the number of questions. Questions can be submitted in two ways: either by e-mail (click here) or by posting the question on the Forum (click here) with 'Q & A' in the subject line. If 'Q & A' is not mentioned on a Forum message then it will not be included in the list of questions on this page. Q & A
The Clubhouse roof (the part which used to be the old Supporters Club building) has been recovered with metal sheeting as the roof was leaking, causing minor damage in the bar. Work has also started on the old disused brick office building at the far end of the stand in order to use it as a Club Shop or Tea Bar. It is hoped that this will be completed early in the season. Other minor work has been done to the stand, such as installing air bricks, etc.
This has taken something of a back seat over the past season, for two reasons. Firstly, it was more important to complete the required work by 1st April to obtain a UniBond League 'A' Grade in order to avoid being automatically relegated no matter where we finished in the League. This has been done and the League have confirmed the 'A' Grading for Westfield Lane. Secondly, the person who had taken on board kick starting the re-development has let the club down by not fulfilling his role over the last 6 months or so!
Players wages vary from player to player and these are agreed solely between the player, Manager and Chairman - some are on contract, some paid per week and some per match. Gary Marrow has a weekly budget to which he has to work as regards the total wages for the team. Therefore, it is up to him if he wants to pay out more to attract a particular player but, in doing so, it reduces the amount available to fund the rest of the team. In terms of reducing the playing budget in order to help the club in other ways - well, you no doubt saw the quality of side put out at the beginning of last season when the weekly wage under Stuart Barraclough was just over half what it is now. I am sure that nobody wants us to return to those days.
Russ Green is still with the club. He attended a Committee Meeting last Thursday and is currently helping organise the Sportsman's Dinner. According to him, he has been helping out at Goole AFC but has never really been 'part of the set-up there.
The club is currently in a much better position to try and keep players that the Manager wants than it has been for a long while. Whilst the club is still only just managing to pay its way through the season it is doing so whilst paying players higher wages than we have been able to do in the past. Previously, we have brought in players who have done well for the club. These have been spotted by other local clubs (ie Emley & Bradford PA) who have been in a position to offer much larger wages to tempt players away. Now the gap between what we can offer and what other clubs can offer is getting much narrower. There is also a much better team spirit about the place then there has been before and players seem much happier to stay. One such example was earlier this season when Andy Evans turned down the chance to move to Scarborough.
As such, nothing is definite yet as to what will or will not happen. There are two avenues which the club are trying to go down. The first is as part of the community development of the pit/tips, etc which, if it gets the go ahead, should mean a complete new stand on the pit tip side of the ground. It is envisaged that this will contain a clubhouse, cafe, community rooms, etc and will be for the use of other people/organisations during the week. This is still a long way off going ahead. The second avenue, which seems the more likely in the short term is that the club is looking to redevelop behind one of the goals, probably the allotment end. This is what the bucket collections have been for - to put towards gaining grant aid to carry out this development. There are also plans to extend the present clubhouse which should bring in more revenue.
Most of the Under 19's side play for other teams (mostly Yorkshire Main) on Saturday's so a player can't be expected to be on stand-by at Frickley and miss out on playing every Saturday for someone else - he'd soon get fed up and leave. However, should we know in advance that a goalkeeper won't be available through injuries/suspensions then, if a replacement couldn't be found from elsewhere, the Under 19's keeper could be called up to play.
