Saturday 19th August - Prescot Cables 1-1 Frickley Athletic The Blues were forced to settle for a point in their opening game of the season after going behind to a 30th minute penalty but drawing level in the 62nd minute through Steve Robinson. The Blues were well on top in the opening stages and had a good chance after just five minutes when Mark Ward broke clear down the left and pulled the ball back for Martyn Woolford but his low first time angled shot spun just wide of the far post. Ward then glanced a header well wide but the home side started to come into the game and had a penalty appeal waved away when Woolford appeared to catch Eddie Taylor in the box. However, Prescot were awarded a penalty on the half hour when Robinson brought down Mark Duffy in the box and Duffy stepped up to score past Gary Ingham. The Blues started the second half positively and went close on 61 minutes but Steve Kennedy headed Alex Callery's right wing corner just over the bar. Gary Marrow then replaced Rob Pell with Richard Tracey and within sixty seconds the Blues drew level. Kennedy's long clearance was knocked into the path of ROBINSON who was left in acres of space on the right to beat the advancing Craig Bryan to the ball and flick it over him into the net. From then on the game deteriorated as a spectacle with both sides needlessly giving the ball away on a poor surface. Ward had a chance to win it for the Blues but his header went wide whilst almost at the final whistle Prescot substitute Gary Jenson broke clear but his shot failed to trouble Ingham.
