Tuesday 23rd October - Frickley Athletic 1-0 Pontefract Collieries

Mark Hancock used this friendly to have a look at some of his fringe players and one or two trialists and, while Pontefract provided stiff opposition, was delighted with the victory.

Determined to make the most of his opportunity, Ryan Morton soon tested visiting keeper Matt Smith before beating him in cheeky fashion in the 14th minute, backheeling the ball into the net from six yards after controlling a cross from the left.

While an overhead kick from Sean Hammonds almost put the visitors on terms in the 18th minute, it was the Bliues who called the tune, Richard Treacy putting a 40 yard lob on the roof of the net in the 24th minute, while Morton had a couple of efforts well saved.

Hancock made seven changes at the interval, while Collieries put Anthony Hayward between the posts, and he proved to be a star.

After going full stretch to turn away an angled drive from Chris White in the 52nd minute, he made a handful of other top class saves.

Frickley keeper Jon Hood had to be alert to make a reflex save to deny the visitors an equaliser in the 68th minute and came quickly off his line to fingertip a centre to safety two minutes later.

Ashley Flynn burst clear for the Blues in the 82nd minute, only for his shot to be blocked at point blank range by Hayward.
