Saturday 26th November - Frickley Athletic 1-0 Ossett Town

This game is available on DVD/Video - See Club Shop

Gary Marrow made several changes to the side this afternoon by dropping Lee Pugh to the subs. bench whilst Calum Selby, Ashley Scothern and Ryan Golden were left out altogether. Nicky Heinemann returned after suspension whilst James Stansfield made his debut at centre-half and Simon Collins was fit to return to partner Phil Lindley in midfield.

Steve Kennedy thought he had given the Blues the lead after just 6 minutes when Alex Callery whipped in a free-kick and Kennedy rose to loop a header over the stranded Neil Bennett but the assistant referee had his flag raised for offside and the goal was ruled out. A Steve Robinson long throw-in then caused havoc in the Ossett box before Lee Morris tested Bennett with a fierce shot from a tight angle. With 18 minutes gone Gary Ingham was tested by Colin Williamson following a cross from the right but Ingham saved comfortably. Pell then tried his luck from 30 yards but his effort cleared the bar with Bennett back-pedaling. The Blues took the lead after 38 minutes when Stansfield's deep free-kick glanced off Kirk Wheeler's head and LEE MORRIS pounced on the loose ball to volley past Bennett from 15 yards. James Walshaw fired an angled shot into the side netting early in the second half before Morris and Pell combined on the edge of the Ossett box but Pell miss-kicked when well placed. Minutes later Walshaw went down in the Blues box following a challenge from Stansfield but the referee waved away claims for a penalty. Martyn Woolford then sent over a great cross from the left which Wheeler almost turned into his own net under pressure from Morris. Former Blues' striker Andy Hayward then had a good chance for Ossett but shot tamely at Ingham. Evans and Pugh came on for Morris and Callery but chances fizzled out at both ends.
