Monday 30th August - Ossett Town 2-1 Frickley Athletic

A penalty two minutes from time from former Frickley player Steve Price earned Ossett Town a 2-1 home win over the Blues in a poor game played on a poor pitch.

Phil Sharpe was forced to make one change to the starting line-up with Steve Woolford replacing the injured Troy Bennett. Richard Tracey was facing his team-mates of just a week ago, whilst former Frickley players Steve price, matt Daly and Rob Hanby all featured for Ossett.

Ossett enjoyed the better of the the opening exchanges and gave the Frickley defence a few early scares, although none seriously worried goalkeeper Marc Shackelton. Steve Robinson was then involved at both ends within sixty seconds as he first cleared Danny Brown's header off the line and then followed that up by seeing his header from a Wayne Benn free-kick drift agonisingly wide of the far post. The Blues lost left-back Graeme Severn through injury after 25 minutes and after a lengthy spell of treatment he was replaced by James Walker, with Gary Hatto dropping back into the defence. The home side then enjoyed a short spell of pressure with three shots in quick succession from Chris Bolder, James Walshaw and David Briggs all being charged down.

Four minutes after the break Robinson again cleared off the line, this time from Daly but 5 minutes later the home side opened the scoring. Pushing forward following a Blues' corner, Phil Lindley lost the ball in the Ossett half allowing the home side to quickly play the ball forward for Rodney Rowe to run unchallenged from half way to score past Shackelton. This seemed to spur Frickley into action. On 57 minutes Hatto's right wing corner was headed back across goal by Lindley to Walker whose close range header was cleared off the line by Rowe but two minutes later the scores were level. Ossett 'keeper Michael Clark came to punch  clear from Benn's free-kick from just inside the Ossett half but got nowhere near the ball, allowing RICHARD TRACEY to head into an unguarded net. Mark Vickerage then received the all inside the centre circle before spotting Clark off his line and tried a 45 yard shot which was dipping towards the top right hand corner but Clark did brilliantly to tip the ball over the bar, although he hurt himself in the process. Some good football through midfield then led to substitute Dale Rimmington having his low 20 yard shot comfortably saved by Clark whilst on 84 minutes Lindley retrieved an over-hit corner to turn and shoot narrowly over the bar from 12 yards.

Then, with only 3 minutes left to play Shackelton came out to collect a long pass aimed for Alex Callery only to fumble the ball and allow Callery to square across the face of goal to Walshaw who shot goalwards from 6 yards. The ball struck Robinson on the line, who instinctively blocked it with his arm with the referee immediately awarding the penalty and also dismissing Robinson. Steve price stepped up to easily convert the spot-kick with just 2 minutes remaining.
