Tuesday 13th November - Ossett Town 0-2 Frickley Athletic

A derby success is sweet, and there was nothing sweeter than this
deserved triumph by Frickley at neighbours Ossett in the Unibond
League Cup 3rd round.
Without a manager and with only one success to their name so far this
season, the Blues should have been easy meat for highriding Town but
football's a funny game and anyone watching could have been forgiven
for getting confused over which team was which.
Chris White burst down the left in the sixth minute before unleashing
a 20 yard drive which Jonothan Hedge did well to grasp, while a good
run down the middle by Richard Marchant seven minutes later produced a shot from the edge of the penalty area which shaved a post.
The home defence was split by a probing pass from Craig Marsh in the
17th minute which found White on the left and he put over a pinpoint
cross for Marsh to meet and head in off the underside of the bar to
put Frickley in front.
Rob O'Brien had a 25 yard shot well held by Jon Hood as Town tried to
get on terms, but they were soon backpedalling.
A loose ball was snapped up by Lee Morris whose 20 yard effort was
tipped round a post by Hedge in the 29th minute. The resultant corner
kick was only half cleared and Danny Walsh curled a 20 yarder into the
top right hand corner to improve the advantage.
It was the visitors who continued to have the edge, with a right wing
corner kick by White on the hour dropping to Marsh, who put a first
time half volley inches wide.
O'Brien put over a cross from the right in the 71st minute for Ossett,
but Scott Jackson failed to connect from six yards.
Another probing pass from Marsh sent White shoulder to shoulder with
David Briggs in the 76th minute and he turned the defender before
seeing his shot blocked, the rebound dropping to Marsh whose 22 yard
drive was held at full stretch by Hedge.
Ossett had a chance a minute later when Matthew Oxer looped a header
over Hood, but Adam Pollock cleared the ball off the line to help the
Blues combine victory with a clean sheet.
