Saturday 29th September - North Ferriby United 3-1 Frickley Athletic

Fortune has deserted Frickley, who were unlucky to return empty-handed from this visit to fellow UniBond Premier Division strugglers North Ferriby.

Fielding the same side which performed so well against Matlock, the Blues were given a boost by an early goal, only for United to turn the tables with a brace of quick goals before the break, and hanging on desperately in the closing stages before poaching another goal in stoppage time.

After Gary Bradshaw had headed straight at Jon Hood from ten yards in the sixth minute, Richard Tracey sent Nathan Hotte racing clear two minutes later, only for him to be tripped from behind by Paul Foot on the edge of the penalty area.

Most referees would have handed out a card but Foot escaped without a card of either colour, although North Ferriby were made to pay when Neil Redfearn drilled the resultant free-kick in the roof of the net to open Frickley's account.

Some good and accurate passing in the 19th minute saw Danny Walsh find Chris Gowen in space and he exchanged passes with Chris Hilton before whipping in a great cross which Nathan Hotte met on the volley, beating Antoni Pecora but the ball came back off an upright and into the keeper's arms.

Bradshaw picked out David Cooke on the edge of the penalty area, only for him to fire tamely at Hood in the 25th minute, and Michael Price put a low shot just wide four minutes later as United tried to get on terms.

A cross from Andy Thompson in the 32nd minute was headed wide by Bradshaw, but Ferriby equalised in the 40th minute when Chris Bolder made a good run down the left and found Bradshaw who flicked on for Cooke to fire a low shot across Hood and just inside the far post.

On the stroke of half-time, failure to clear a header from Bradshaw by the visiting defence led to Brewster Frizzell finding the net with a deflected shot from close range to give United a surprise advantage.

Frickley lost skipper Steve Robinson with an injury two minutes after the resumption, Steve Ball coming on but also taking a knock which led to him leaving in the 79th minute and Adam Pollock taking his place.

A 25 yard free-kick by Michael Price in the 57th minute was blocked by the Blues 'wall' and Price put the rebound just off target, but Frickley were beginning to threaten, Redfearn breaking from midfield six minutes later and clipping the bar with a 25 yarder.

Substitute Richard Medcalf went close for the Blues with a header after a free-kick in the 80th minute, and the visitors were denied a penalty six minutes later when Foot climbed all over Medcalf in the penalty area and, not for the first time in the match managed to escape without being penalised.

Chris White was fouled in the 90th minute, and Redfearn again clipped the woodwork with another free-kick.

United, who were praying for the final whistle, launched a counter attack in the third minute of stoppage time, sub Alex Davidson racing clear to snatch a third goal with an angled shot.
