Tuesday 21st August - Frickley Athletic 2-2 North Ferriby United
Frickley had success snatched from their grasp by a former
Blues favourite when Andy Hayward got an 89th minute equaliser for North
Ferriby and left the home side with only a single Unibond Premier Division
point.
Two former Frickley players, Chris Gowen and Phil Lindley,
have returned to the South Elmsall club and both were included by manager
Billy Heath in a reshuffled side.
Hayward went close with a volley in the fifth minute, while
Frickley responded, Steve Ball producing a brace of free-kicks, the first
being held by keeper Antoni Pecora, while the second was headed just wide at
the far post by Lindley.
A 25 yard free-kick from Morris was held at the second
attempt by Pecora on the half hour, but the Blues skipper should have scored
when a free-kick from Chris White found him unmarked, only for Morris to lift
his shot over the target from five yards.
Straight after the interval, Chris Gowen had a free-kick
scrambled off the visiting line, and one by Danny Walsh also bobbled
dangerously before being cleared by Paul Foot.
United also looked dangerous, Jon Hood holding a low 30
yard shot from Michael Price in the 55th minute, and Chris Bolder went
close a minute later.
The deadlock was broken in the 59th minute, Chris White
whipping in a corner kick from the right and Steve Heath hit the target with a
ten yard header to open the home account.
There was a touch of good fortune for the home side when
Paul Foot had a header diverted off the line in the 73rd minute, with Hayward
and Gary Bradshaw having shots blocked after the resultant corner.
Luck favoured North Ferriby in the 78th minute when Foot
crashed a header against the underside of the bar and the assistant referee
ruled the ball had crossed the line when it fell to tie the scores.
Two minutes later, Chris Hilton sent Richard Tracey down
the right and he put in a pinpoint cross for Danny Davidson to power in a
header and restore the Blues advantage.
Davidson cut in from the left in the 88th minute but lifted
his 25 yard drive over the target, while from the clearance, Andy Hayward put
United on terms with a sizzling shot.
