Tuesday 20th September - North Ferriby United 1-2 Frickley Athletic The Blues triumphed in a competitive contest between two sides in the upper reaches of the Premier Division table thanks to first half goals from Martyn Woolford and Alex Callery. Gary Marrow made a few changes to the Blues' line-up with Steve Robinson switching to left full-back in place of the injured Ritchie Butler whilst Craig Robinson came in at right full-back. Phil Lindley replaced Calum Selby in midfield and being joined by Simon Collins at the expense of Andy Evans. The Blues made a great start to the game and ought to have taken the lead after just two minutes as Steve Robinson's headed ball forward found Chambers printing clear but instead of lobbing the advancing keeper he delayed his shot, allowing 'keeper Paul Sharp to tip his effort over the bar. However, from Alex Callery's corner MARTYN WOOLFORD headed the ball into the bottom left hand corner of the goal for his first goal of the season. Shortly afterwards Callery shot wide of the right hand post from 20 yards as the blues looked to build on their lead. The hosts struck back with Joel Hartley twice going close. First he broke down the right to fire in an angled 20 yard shot which Gary Ingham caught and the second attempt, whilst on 25 minutes he hit the outside of the right hand post with another angled shot. Just before the half hour the Blues went close again as Callery's free-kick from the right fell to Steve Kennedy just inside the box but Sharp reacted brilliantly to push the ball away from the top right hand corner. The game was soon back to the other end as Graham Hockless broke through the Blues defence only for Ingham to comfortably smother his low 18 yard shot. On 37 minutes Ingham was again alert as he pushed away a header from Leon Wainman. On 42 minutes Woolford had the ball in the net again but his effort was disallowed for a foul in the build-up but on 44 minutes some good work by Chambers saw him chip the ball from the right of the box to the far post where CALLERY headed in from almost on the line. ferriby started the second half strongly, putting the Blues on the back foot right from the whistle with Ingham being forced to divert a low 18 yard shot from Hartley around the post after 47 minutes. After surviving a few scares the Blues defence was finally breached on 55 minutes when Wainman cut in from the right to fire an angled shot in off the far post, despite Ingham getting a hand to the ball. However, the Blues began to stem the pressure towards Ingham's goal and started to force more pressure back on the Ferriby defence. On 67 minutes lee Pugh's 20 yard shot was deflected and looped just over the bar and from the corner Matt Daly's goal-bound header was headed off the line with Sharp beaten. The Blues should have put the game out of Ferriby's reach on 73 minutes as Callery picked out Collin's run into the box which left him completely on his own just 10 yards out but he seemed caught in 2 minds whether to shoot or pass the ball and in the end he did neither as he rolled the ball well wide of the far post. It proved to be Collins' last touch of the ball as he was immediately replaced by Calum Selby who had the last chance of the game as his 90th minute free-kick was caught at the second attempt by Sharp on the line. Prior to this, Chambers received his marching orders following an off-the-ball incident with Andy Thompson was was extremely fortunate not to receive a card of any colour himself.
