Saturday 16th December - Frickley Athletic 1-1 North Ferriby United
Team spirit salvaged a vital UniBond Premier Division point for
the Blues when they entertained North Ferriby.
New striker James Nestor found it difficult to get on the same
wavelength as Paul Palmer and Lee Morris, while Kieron O'Brien was still
carrying the effects of an injury.
It resulted in a disjointed display from the home side,
but they refused to give in and, after three efforts had been blocked, Paul Palmer
threaded a shot through from 15 yards to put them on terms in the 85th
minute.
United had the ball in the net through Sam Agar in the ninth
minute, but it was disallowed for off-side, while Jon Hood saved well from
Ross Thompson and Gary Bradshaw before the visitors went ahead in the 25th
minute.
Andy Thompson intercepted a mishit clearance from Chris Hilton
and raced down the right before pulling the ball back for Bradshaw to volley
in from 15 yards.
The Blues were unable to get a shot on target, Palmer going
close with a glancing header in the 35th minute while Danny Moore, who had
replaced O'Brien, screwed a shot wide six minutes later.
Immediately after the interval, Ferriby keeper Antoni Pecora
was penalised for picking up a back pass, but Martin Thacker's free-kick was
diverted round a post and the corner cleared.
Another new signing Carl Giblin replaced Nester in the 50th
minute, moving into the back four, allowing Hilton to switch to midfield,
but Hood had to go full stretch six minutes later to turn a 25 yard free-kick
from Ross Thompson off the line.
Morris played a neat one-two with Thacker before testing Pecora
with an angled drive on the hour, although it needed a fingertip save from
Hood to prevent Bradshaw increasing the United lead six minutes later.
Frickley were starting to impose their authority on exchanges,
Morris picking out Moore who put a 15 yard drive inches wide in the 75th
minute, and Steve Kennedy flicked on a free-kick to Thacker, whose shot was
turned off the line.
Once on terms, the Blues looked the only possible winners, Dean
Jones replacing the injured Steve Robinson and causing problems as a make
shift striker, while Morris and Palmer both went close.
