Saturday 1st April - Frickley Athletic  1-0  Matlock Town

This match is available on DVD/Video - See Club Shop

Matt Daly's 65th minute goal was enough to see the Blues register their third successive League win and remain a point clear at the top of the table.

With Alex Callery not fully recovered from the injury sustained at Leek Town last Saturday Chris Adam was drafted into an otherwise unchanged side. Calum Selby came in to fill the vacant slot on the subs. bench.

The Blues had their first sight of goal after 8 minutes when Rob Pell flicked Steve Robinson's throw-in into the path of Martyn Woolford who cut inside before firing in a shot from 18 yards which took a deflection off a defender. The deflection saw the ball spin away from the diving Andy Richmond and looked to be heading out of play until Adam arrived at the far post but his first time shot went agonisingly across the face of goal. Woolford then went even closer when Adam's right wing corner found its way to Woolford inside the 6 yard box but his instinctive header was cleared off the line. Woolford was again the threat after 15 minutes when he cut in from the right to fire in a low shot from 20 yards which wrong-footed Richmond but flew inches wide of the right hand post. Just before the half hour mark Matt Daly hit a low 20 yard free-kick which deflected just wide off the wall. Minutes later a quick break led to Woolford, Peter Duffield and Adam combining well but Adam's shot was deflected wide for a corner.

Gary Marrow replaced Duffield with Mark Ward after 57 minutes and almost immediately he picked out Wooflord inside the box just 6 yards out but Woolford's control let him down and chance was gone. Minutes later Lee Pugh lashed a powerful volley just wide from 25 yards and then Simon Collins flashed another long range effort over the bar. The Blues finally got their reward, albeit rather fortuitously, after 65 minutes. Adam sent over a corner from the right which Richmond came to meet but missed with the ball striking the onrushing DALY on the thigh before bouncing over the line. After rarely threatening Gary Ingham's goal two substitutions by the visitors saw them suddenly start to look dangerous. On 79 minutes Ian Clarke's free-kick picked out James Lukic at the far post but his header was straight at Ingham. Immediately the Blues responded with Adam wriggling past 3 challenges to burst into the box and pull the ball back towards Woolford but the pass was blocked for a corner. Adam tried his luck with a curling 18 yard shot after 88 minutes but the ball curled just wide of the far post.
