Friday 7th April - Lincoln United  3-7  Frickley Athletic

The Blues rattled up their highest away League score for sixty years as they defeated Lincoln United 7-3 tonight to move seven points clear of Farsley Celtic at the top of the table. However, Blyth Spartans are just two points behind Farsley but have played four games fewer.

The last time the Blues scored seven goals away from home in a League game was against Doncaster Rovers Reserves in the 1945/46 season. On that occasion the Blues won 7-0 but the Blues could have bettered that scoreline this evening.

Manager Gary Marrow opted to replace Rob Pell with Mark Ward whilst Neil Ashley replaced the injured Simon Collins. Alex Callery has recovered from his injury problems but was absent due to flu.

Matt Daly continued his remarkable recent scoring form to open the scoring after just three minutes. Chris Adam's corner from the right was too long but Martyn Woolford chipped the ball back into the box for DALY to score at the far post. Mark Ward had a 25 yard free kick well parried by Craig Wherry before Daly notched his fifth goal in five matches after 26 minutes. Steve Robinson's deep free kick was headed back across goal by Steve Kennedy for DALY to head in from almost on the line. However, Lincoln pulled a goal back almost immediately as Danny Brooks scored with a 20 yard free kick. But, with hardly time to draw breath, Mark Ward opened his account for the club as Kennedy headed down Woolford's left wing corner for WARD to turn and fire the ball in from 6 yards. Again Lincoln came back as both sides looked like scoring with every attack. They pulled a goal back on 32 minutes when a deep cross from the left was headed in by the unmarked Brendan McDaid. Worse was to follow on 40 minutes as another break down the left resulting in the ball coming off Ritchie Butler and looping over the helpless Gary Ingham and into the net.

Gary Marrow's half time team talk seemed to work wonders as the Blues defence certainly tightened up after the break. Chris Adam went agonisingly close just minutes after the restart but his angled shot went across the face of goal following a good move involving Ward and Duffield. A minute later the Blues took the lead again as Adam threaded the ball through for WARD to lob the advancing 'keeper from the edge of the box.Five minutes later it was 5-3 as DUFFIELD robbed Ben Brown in the middle of the Lincoln half to race clear and tuck the ball under Wherry from just inside the box. Ward missed a glorious chance to grab his hat-trick on 59 minutes as Wollford sent him clear but Ward hesitated enough to allow Wherry to collect the ball at his feet. On 66 minutes Woolford beat Wherry to a loose ball on the left of the box and crossed to Duffield but his overhead kick was inches wide of the left hand post. Duffield grabbed his second goal of the evening on 68 minutes as Adam's corner was flicked on by Daly for DUFFIELD to head in from a yard out. Daly then saw his 20- yard shot tipped around the post by Wherry before Woolford had a great run from half way into the Lincoln box but Wherry did well to block Woolford's shot. Ward then volleyed just over the bar before he and Duffield were replaced by Rob Pell and Andy Evans. With almost the last kick of the game EVANS headed Lee Pugh's left wing corner into the roof of the net to complete the scoreline.
