Tuesday 1st March - Frickley Athletic 1-0 Lincoln United DVD/Video Available of this match - See Club Shop The Blues moved six points clear of the relegation zone and into thirteenth place in the League table following tonight's 1-0 victory over Lincoln United at the Millennium Worldwide Stadium. Central defender Matt Daly scored the winner on 25 minutes, heading into an empty net after Lincoln goalkeeper Nick Conroy had come for, and missed, Steve Woolford's deep free-kick. Gary Marrow named the same side that had accounted for Leek Town on Saturday and the Blues soon continued from where they'd left off in the previous game. After a fairly even first 10 minutes Neil Ashley sent over a free kick from the left which was flicked away by a defender. Phil Lindley retrieved the ball and laid it back into the path of Steve Robinson who sent over a great first time cross which was met by a powerful header from the onrushing Simon Collins only for the ball to strike the fortunate Conroy on the line and rebound to safety. Ten minutes later Ashley won the ball well some 30 yards out to play the ball in to Leroy Chambers who teed up Collins but his 25 yard shot was well saved by Conroy. The Blues took the lead on 25 minutes when Conroy came to punch clear Woolford's deep free-kick but missed the ball which came off a defender's head and fell kindly for MATT DALY to head into an unguarded net from 8 yards. Lincoln were struggling to make any impression on Gary Ingham's goal with their only efforts being from distance which were either off target or easily dealt with by Ingham. Collins was denied again on 34 minutes when Lee Pugh did well down the left before crossing to Collins at the far post but his volley on the turn was caught at the second attempt by Conroy. Almost on the stroke of half time Robinson tried his luck with angled shot from 25 yards but the ball flew narrowly wide of the left hand post. The visitors started the second half more positively and put the Blues' defence under pressure although they failed to create any clear chances. Lincoln brought on Jason Minnett for Paul Miller on the hour and his first contribution was to cynically bring down Pugh from behind as Pugh led a 'three on three' break. The resulting free-kick was taken by Nazha with the ball glancing off a defender's head before being headed wide from 6 yards by Chambers. Ashley then chipped just over the bar from 20 yards after being set up by Nazha before Nazha missed a great chance to seal the win on 80 minutes. Ashley hooked the ball forward only for Mark Hone to misjudge the bounce, leaving Nazha clear inside the box but he lashed his angled 15 yard shot well over the bar. Chambers was then forced off through injury and was replaced by Andy Evans. The final ten minutes saw Lincoln pen the Blues back in their own box for a considerable amount of time but the Blues defence prevented them from having a clear sight of goal until just 30 seconds from the final whistle when a cross from the left was flicked on to Gary Bull but his shot on the turn flew over the bar from 12 yards.
