Saturday 18th February - Leek Town 0-2 Frickley Athletic Frickley returned to the top of the UniBond Premier Division following a comfortable 2-0 win at Leek Town this afternoon. Rob Pell opened the scoring with a 35 yard screamer with just 3 minutes gone and Peter Duffield scored his second goal in three games to double the lead after 21 minutes. The Blues kicked off with an unchanged starting eleven, although new signings Steve Heath and Mark Ward started on the bench alongside Chris Adam. The home side ought to have taken the lead almost straight from the kick off but Simon Eldershaw headed wide when unmarked at the far post following a cross from the right. However, the Blues were soon into their stride with Lee Pugh setting up Peter Duffield but he shot straight at Adam Wilkes from the edge of the box. With three minutes gone the Blues took the lead when Duffield and Rob Pell exchanged passes just inside the Leek half and PELL immediately let fly with a screaming shot which flew past Wilkes and into the top right hand corner from 35 yards. The Blues increased their lead on 21 minutes when Pell flicked on Alex Callery's cross from the right to DUFFIELD at the near post who swivelled to stab in a shot which went in off the far post from 5 yards. Although the home side enjoyed periods of possession Gary Ingham's goal was rarely being threatened. Pell went close to extending the Blues' lead on 53 minutes but he shot just wide from 8 yards. Minutes later Leek's Ashley Wooliscroft flashed an angled shot just wide from 12 yards. Simon Collins wriggled his way past a couple of challenges to the edge of the Leek box but his final shot was comfortably saved by Wilkes after 72 minutes and shortly afterwards Pell found himself clear but he pushed the ball too far in front of himself on the heavy pitch which allowed Wilkes to come out of his goal to block at Pell's feet. Substitute Ward then fired over at the back post following a corner as the Blues finished the game looking the most likely of the two sides to add to the scoreline.
