Saturday 23rd February - Leek Town 0-1 Frickley Athletic

This was always going to be hard, but Frickley came through a tough test with flying colours to register their sixth consecutive victory and move further up the UniBond Premier Division.

The home side enjoyed the better of the opening minutes but without really threatening before Frickley started to come into the game. Chris White cut in from the left in the fifth minute and unleashed a strong shot which Town keeper Matt Cooper managed to stop at the foot of a post but the ball ran loose and Lee Morris lashed it against the inside of the upright before it was booted to safety.

An 18 yard drive from Neil Towler was well saved by Cooper three minutes later, and 25 minutes had elapsed before the home side threatened, Anthony Danylyk putting a 25 yarder just over the bar.

Morris drilled a 20 yarder a foot wide of the target after 32 minutes and Danny Walsh pounced on a poor clearance from Cooper seven minutes later and hammered a 25 yard volley just over the top.

The Blues started the second half in the same positive manner, White and Walsh combining well before Walsh struck a shot from the edge of the penalty area just wide.

Leek responded with Danylyk finding space on the right in the 63rd minute but firing across the face of goal.

The deadlock was broken four minutes later when White chipped the ball to the far post where Scott Turner headed in for his third goal in two matches.

Rob Hopley got into the penalty area for Town in the 70th minute but Phil Lindley got back to prevent him getting in a shot, and the ball switched to the other goalmouth where White had a 20 yard drive well held by Cooper.

When a free-kick was only half cleared in the 82nd minute, Danylyk hit a first time volley but Jon Hood was alert to catch the ball, and he came to Frickley's rescue again in the second minute of stoppage time when he turned a 15 yard effort from Louis Briscoe round a post.
