Saturday 24th March - Kendal Town  2-0  Frickley Athletic

A patched up Blues' side went down to two quick-fire goals shortly after half time as they lost 2-0 at Kendal Town this afternoon. Lee Ashcroft fired the home side in front after 52 minutes whilst Peter Wright added a second from the penalty spot two minutes later after a foul by Adam Pollock. Steve Robinson was sent off for a second bookable offence after 72 minutes.

Manager Billy Heath was without long-term injury victims Steve Kennedy and Dean Jones whilst Calum Selby was unavailable and Remo Nesa informed Heath just an hour before the coach was due to leave that he was also unavailable. This resulted in the late signing of reserve team player Chris Dwyer on UniBond League forms.

In a first half devoid of any real quality the Blues were the first to have sight of goal but Ben Eastwood volleyed over the bar from 18 yards after Lee Morris had headed down Chris Hilton's throw-in. Two minutes later Jon Hood did well to block a low 15 yard shot from Kendal's Peter Ferris after good work from Peter Wright. Just before the half hour both sides went close. First Lee Mullvaney fired just wide of the left hand post from just inside the box after the impressive Wright again created the chance, this time cutting in from the left. Within sixty seconds Morris' free-kick from the right found its way to Robinson but his shot on the turn from 10 yards came back off the left hand post with goalkeeper Rick Whiteside rooted to the spot. With the Blues enjoying a god spell of pressure Chris Hilton sent over a cross from the left on the stroke of half time which Morris met with a glancing header towards goal but Whiteside was in the right place to collect on the line.

Disaster struck for the Blues just 7 minutes after the break when the home side took the lead. A deep cross from the left was headed back across goal by Ferris for Lee Ashcroft to control the ball before firing past Hood from 12 yards. Two minutes later Kendal doubled their lead when Adam Pollock was adjudged to have fouled Wright inside the box as they both went for a cross from the right. Wright stepped up to score from the penalty spot. Hood was then called upon to push Wright's 22 yard free-kick over the bar but the Blues were almost back in the game after 68 minutes but Whiteside brilliantly tipped Morris' curling 25 yard free kick over the bar. However, the Blues' chances of getting anything from the game all but disappeared after 72 minutes when Robinson was sent off after receiving a second yellow card for handling a high ball over the Blues' defence.
