Saturday 29th October - Frickley Athletic 2-0 Ilkeston Town This match is available to purchase on DVD/Video - See Club Shop Second half goals from Martyn Woolford and Alex Callery, from the penalty spot, were enough to earn the Blues a good win against a physical Ilkeston Town side who were perhaps a little fortunate to complete the game with 11 players still on the pitch. Despite Steve Robinson and Martyn Woolford both being available to return to the side Gary Marrow started with the same starting eleven that performed so well against Bradford Park Avenue on Wednesday evening with Robinson and Woolford starting on the bench alongside Leroy Chambers. Playing against a gusting wind in the first half the Blues found themselves pushed back for quite a bit of the opening 45 minutes but Gary Ingham's goal was rarely under threat. Andy Evans wasn't too far away for the Blues but his hooked shot on the turn dropped wide of the post following a corner after 10 minutes. Shortly afterwards the Blues had a let-off when a good move down the Ilkeston right saw the ball find its way to the unmarked Paul Smith at the far post but his control let him down and Phil Lindley was able to clear. Next Simon Collins did brilliantly to get in a last ditch tackle on Mick Goddard which saw the faintest of touches take the ball away from the Ilkeston striker with the ball running harmlessly to Ingham with the visitors appealing for a foul as Goddard fell over Collins' outstretched legs. Ashley Scothern was then harshly penalised as he latched on to a Calum Selby through ball but the referee deemed he had fouled his marker as he broke clear. Next Ross Turner did well to deny Alex Callery after Scothern's pass left him to flick the ball over the last defender near the penalty spot but Turner blocked his shot. The Blues enjoyed much more possession during the second half but they threatened more after Marrow made a double substitution just before the hour as he replaced Golden and Scothern with Woolford and Chambers. However, the Blues had a let-off almost immediately after the substitutions when Justin Jenkins got to a long ball just before Ingham but his shot from a tight angle was tame and Collins cleared the danger. On 62 minutes the Blues finally broke the deadlock. Collins' free-kick from just inside the Blues' half was headed down by Andy Evans to WOOLFORD who fired past Turner from 18 yards. (click here for video clip)Almost immediately Ilkeston's Gareth Holmes felled Lee Pugh with a high swinging elbow right in front of the referee who, amazingly, failed to punish Holmes for the incident. Pugh was forced to receive lengthy treatment before he could continue. Minutes later Selby's free-kick found Steve Kennedy unmarked inside the box with his back to goal but his back header was turned around the post by Turner. However, Turner went from hero to villain as he conceded a needless penalty when he blatantly tripped Woolford as he ran passed him whilst Turner had the ball in his hands. Despite misisng has last two spot-kicks CALLERY stepped up to score from the penalty after 77 minutes. (Click here for video) With time running out Evans chased a lost cause down the left and managed to win the ball near the corner flag to lift over a cross towards Chambers who had made a great run into the box but he managed to put his shot over the bar from 6 yards.
