Saturday 11th October - Harrogate Town 2-1 Frickley Athletic

After taking the lead as early as the 7th minute the Blues had looked good for taking at least a point but after equalising on 75 minutes the home side snatched the points with a last minute header following a corner.

With Karl Colley unavailable manager Phil Sharpe was forced to make one change, with Paul Marquis returning in Colley's place. Both sides went close in the opening minutes with Gary Bradshaw having a 25 yard shot parried by Mark Samways whilst at the other end Harrogate defender James McDaid did well to prevent Phil Lindley tapping in at the far post from Lee Morris' cross from the right. On 7 minutes the Blues opened the scoring when Nick Richardson's quickly taken free-kick released MORRIS who coolly lobbed 'keeper Liam Sutcliffe from 25 yards. Samways then got down well to save a low 25 yarder from Colin Hunter. Referee Mr C. Barker from Leeds then decided he was unable to continue so the game was held up for nearly 15 minutes whilst a replacement Assistant Referee could be found as Assistant Mr N. Haycock took over in the middle. On the resumption the Blues went close to increasing their lead when Morris sent over a cross from the right which again saw McDaid do well to prevent Lindley getting a free shot at goal but the ball rebounded to former Frickley defender Mick McNaughton who volleyed narrowly over his own bar from 5 yards. Almost on the stroke of half time Lindley picked out Lee Pugh's run into the box with a perfectly weighted ball in from the left but Pugh miss-kicked from some 15 yards out.

Pugh was involved two minutes after half time when he won the ball well on half way to surge forward and release Morris but his angled shot from 15 yards hit the side netting. Bradshaw then shot wide of the right hand upright following a good Harrogate move down their left. A tired looking Gary Hatto was then replaced by Dan Sheriffe with Lindley dropping into the left back role whilst the home side made a double substitution which led to Harrogate enjoying much more play and looking more dangerous. Almost immediately Samways did well to block and angled shot from Mark Atkins whilst on 71 minutes Samways pulled off an even better save to block an angled close range shot from Hunter. Paul Hurrell then failed by inches to get a touch on a flick on from Morris which would have seen him poke the ball past the onrushing Sutcliffe. Immediately the home side attacked with Hunter getting away from Pugh to fire in the equaliser past Samways from 18 yards. Right at the death Marquis was forced to concede a corner from which Glenn Naylor headed in the winner.
