Monday 28th July - Frickley Athletic 4-1 Guiseley

The Blues' line-up again featured several triallists as they eased past a Guiseley side who made numerous changes throughout the game. Ex-Parkgate 'keeper Paul Walsh started in goal and he was immediately called upon to save well from a close range Guiseley shot. However, within seconds the Blues took the lead when Lee Morris fed the onrushing REMO NESA who made no mistake to open the scoring. On 8 minutes Guiseley 'keeper Lee Ashworth did well to save a close range shot from Antony Jackson following a Blues' corner. Three minutes later Morris just failed to connect with a Stuart Preston cross from the right with the Guiseley defence again exposed. Guiseley drew level on 13 minutes when Walsh brought down a Guiseley player in the box and Justin Adams converted the penalty. A minute later Morris knocked in a Phil Lindley cross from the left with his hand and immediately received a yellow card for his trouble. The Blues were forcing all the attacking play with Jackson being unlucky to see his 18 yard shot following a Gary Hatto free-kick go just wide of the right hand post. The Blues finally retook the lead on 33 minutes when Preston's cross from the left bounced over a couple of defenders, leaving DUNCAN RICHARDS to steel in and loop a header over Ashworth. Less than sixty seconds later it was 3-1 as substitute LEE HURRELL (ex-Sheffield United youth player) Beat the onrushing Ashworth to a long ball, flicked the ball over him and rolled the ball into an empty net.

Several substitutions were made at half time with the introduction of Mark Lafferty, Kieran O'Brien and Lee Pugh, along with the re-introduction of Lee Morris. On 50 minutes Morris was unlucky to see his 30 yard free-kick brilliantly tipped over the bar but it took the Blues until the 76th minute to score again. Walsh sent a long kick up field which Mark Hancock flicked on to HURRELL who lobbed the advancing keeper. Hurrell came close to claiming his hat-trick on 83 minutes but his shot following a corner was cleared off the line. Right at the death Nesa, who had just returned to the field, got clear inside the box but dragged his shot inches wide of the left hand post.

Frickley Athletic : Paul Walsh, Richards, Hatto, Robinson, Jackson, Marquis, Lindley, Nesa, Morris, Stuart Preston, Ryan Till. Subs. Hancock, O'Brien, Mark Lafferty, Lee Pugh, Paul Hurrell.
