Saturday 27th November - Frickley Athletic 0-1 Guiseley

DVD/Video Available of this match - See Club Shop

Gary Marrow handed debuts to both new signings, Wael Nazha and Ashley Scothern but Dean Foley wasn't fit enough to play.

The visitors had a let-off with the game barely 2 minutes old when Calum Selby's free-kick was dropped by goalkeeper John Lamb but he recovered to collect at the second attempt before Richard Tracey could trouble him. Both sides soon settled down with play quickly moving from one end to the other, although both sides were struggling to carve out a clear chance. Lee Pugh almost played in Scothern on 22 minutes but Lamb was out of his goal quickly to clear. Guiseley took the lead on 33 minutes when a cross from the right was headed out by Matt Daly but only as far Neil Grayson who brilliantly controlled the ball first time with his right foot to wrong foot Pugh before firing a left footed shot past Ingham from 22 yards.

The Blues had two decent chances to equalise within the first 5 minutes of the second half. First Nazha latched onto a long ball from Steve Robinson but, as Lamb came out of his goal, Nazha could only lob the ball wide of the goal and minutes later Scothern and Pugh played a one-two on the edge of the Guiseley box for Scothern to break clear but instead of shooting hen elected to cross the ball across the face of goal and the danger was cleared. The Blues started to enjoy large periods of possession but still without creating a clear opening in front of goal whilst Guiseley looked threatening on the break. Matt Moran replaced Tracey with 15 minutes left and a few minutes later Pugh went close with a snap-shot from 18 yards which flew wide of the right hand post. As the Blues pushed further and further forward in search of an equaliser it started to look likely that they would get caught at the other end. This almost happened on 85 minutes when Moran's corner was punched clear from under the bar by Lamb and the ball was played up-field where Jonathan Hunt beat Woolford and then Robinson to bear down on Ingham's goal but Ingham stood his ground well to push the ball away from Hunt's feet with the loose ball rolling to the unmarked Simon Parke who fired wide from 15 yards. Almost immediately it was the Blues' turn to threaten with Moran beating Jeremy Illingworth down the left and then sending over a cross which came back off the face of the crossbar. When the ball was returned by Daly a corner was conceded. Moran's corner was met by a flick from Pugh that sailed over the stranded Lamb but came back off the near post - which just about summed up the Blues luck in front of goal during the afternoon!
