Tuesday 26th September - Guiseley 5-1 Frickley Athletic The Blues travelled to Guiseley just hours after the departure of manager Gary Marrow to Grantham Town with Mark Ogley taking charge of the side before joining Marrow at Grantham. Ogley was without the services of Gary Ingham and Adam Pollock due to illness whilst Lee Pugh had joined Ossett Town earlier in the day after Town had submitted 7 days notice the week before. With other fringe players unavailable Ogley could only name two substitutes. The Blues started the game passionately with a good run from Alex Callery leading to Mark Ward having an 18 yard shot tipped over the bar after 7 minutes. The home side took the lead on 21 minutes when Sam Denton's low 25 yard free-kick flew just inside the post. Four minutes later Matt Smithard fired in a well executed volley from just inside the box to double the hosts' lead. However, the Blues stuck to their task and took the game to Guiseley for the remainder of the half and were unlucky on several occasions not to score. First Danny Walsh saw his angled volley deflected just wide whilst Rob Pell saw his low 25 yard free-kick well saved by Steve Dickinson. Dickinson then brilliantly pushed away a point blank header from Ward following a corner whilst another corner saw Dickinson push away a fierce volley from Steve Kennedy. Guiseley effectively sealed the game 2 minutes after half time when substitute Scott Jackson fired in an angled drive. Minutes later Guiseley were fortunate to still have 11 men on the field as a defender deliberately blocked Ward's 22 yard shot on the edge of the box with his arm but received only a yellow card for his actions. The Blues kept pushing to get something from the game but Guiseley struck again on the break on 54 minutes with Stuart Gray scoring from 18 yards. Jackson added a fifth after a defensive mistake left him with the task of taking the ball round Green and scoring into an empty net. KENNEDY finally gave the Blues' fans a goal to cheer when he curled in a shot from just inside the box following a free-kick with 8 minutes left. In the end the Blues could consider themselves unfortunate to be on the end of a misleading scoreline after giving a gutsy display but being up against a goalkeeper on the top of his form.
