Tuesday 24th October - Frickley Athletic 2-0 Guiseley A debut goal from Paul Palmer at the end of the first half and a second half header from Rob Pell earned the Blues their second consecutive UniBond League victory as they defeated Guiseley 2-0 this evening. The win also saw the Blues keep a clean sheet for the first time this season. With several player available that weren't on Saturday Billy Heath made sweeping changes to the Blues' side bringing in Paul Palmer for his debut alongside Rob Pell up front whilst Lee Stratford, Steve Heath and Dean Jones all returned to stabilise the defence. New signing Paul Rickers from Ossett Town was on the subs bench alongside Mark Ward and Calum Selby. The Blues' side appeared much more committed to the cause than in Saturday's FA Carlsberg Trophy tie, although Guiseley enjoyed the better of the opening exchanges but without threatening Jon Hood's goal. Pell had gone close with a close range header which Steve Dickenson had tipped over the bar before the Blues took the lead almost on the stroke of half time. Neil Ashley headed a poor Guiseley free-kick forward for Alex Callery to send PALMER sprinting clear to round Dickenson and tap the ball into an empty net. (Click here for video clip) The fact that Guiseley rarely troubled Hood's goal throughout the game was testimony to the Blues' defence and it came as no surprise when the Blues added a second goal on 74 minutes. Danny Moore swung over a cross from the right which PELL glanced over the stranded Dickenson and into the top left hand corner of the goal. (Click here for video clip). Guiseley tried hard to push forwards but the Blues kept them well at bay and could have scored again on the break as Pell and Palmer combined well on a couple of occasions but were denied either by last ditch defending or a linesman's raised flag.
