Tuesday 10th October - Frickley Athletic 1-1 Grantham Town The Blues gained their first point under Billy Heath with a thoroughly committed performance which deserved a win rather than a draw. But, for long periods it looked as if all the possession and chances were destined to count for nothing with Grantham riding their luck and snatching a goal against the run of play just before half time. Heath made just one change to the side with Jon Hood replacing the departed Gary Ingham in goal and Hood was a virtual spectator for long periods of the game. The Blues made their intentions known right from the kick-off as they forced the early pace and started to create chances. However, chances came and went with the pick of them seeing Rob Pell cutting in from the right before firing over from 8 yards, Mark Ward curling an 18 yard shot against the outside of the right hand post and Mark Crossfield having an 18 yard shot saved by Danny Tomlinson. Grantham took the lead on the break after 42 minutes with Brett Lovell firing in a first time shot from the edge of the box which left Hood with no chance. The second half continued in the same manner as the first with Grantham's goal again leading a charmed life before the Blues' finally got their reward on 74 minutes. Hood's long clearance was flicked on by Ward for ALEX CALLERY to hold off the challenge of Tom Bellingham before firing an angled 18 yard shot across Tomlinson and just inside the right hand post. The goal was no more than the Blues deserved and minutes later they nearly took the lead but Steve Kennedy's effort was cleared off the line following Callery's right wing corner.
