Saturday 3rd February - Grantham Town 0-0 Frickley Athletic

While the Blues ended their fruitless run in the UniBond Premier Division, this was one game which they would dearly have loved to have won but had to be satisfied with sharing the spoils with Grantham a second time.
The home side had six former Frickley players in their starting 11 and another on the subs bench, while the visitors kept the same side which was so unlucky against Marine in the previous game, Steve Kennedy maintaining his midfield role.
Perhaps it was because so many from both teams had experience of playing with one another that the game took time to generate any excitement and simmered rather than ever reaching boiling point.
A fine header from Dean Jones sent Paul Palmer clear in the 38th minute and he appeared to be pulled back by a Town defender, denying him a shooting opportunity, but appeals for a penalty were ignored.
Two minutes later, Scott Turner and Ben Eastwood combined fluently for Turner to put Palmer away again, only for him to shoot tamely at Gary Ingham from the edge of the penalty area.
It was not until after the interval that the Town attack showed any threat, Kevin Ward getting away on the right and rattling the bar with an angled 18 yard shot in the 56th minute.
The Blues responded, Eastwood, Lee Morris and Turner, creating a flowing attack down the right after 62 minutes and Turner whipping in a cross which proved just too high for the incoming Danny Walsh.
Steve Heath headed just over the bar after a corner kick by Morris from the right three minutes later, but Frickley was unable to stamp any real authority on exchanges, and it needed a slick save from Jon Hood to prevent Rhys Powell snatching the honours with a low drive from the edge of the penalty area after 77 minutes.
