Saturday 7th August - Glasshoughton Welfare 4-3 Frickley Athletic

On a hot and sunny afternoon Phil Sharpe fielded a slightly weakened Blues side which ultimately suffered a 4-3 defeat. With Nathan Hood and Matthew Plant unavailable and Antony Jackson reportedly considering a move to Worksop Town Steve Woolford came in to partner Phil Lindley at the heart of the defence whilst Gary Hatto started on the left of midfield. James Walker started alongside Mark Vickerage in attack.

The Blues started the match brightly and ought to have taken the lead after just 3 minutes when James Walker did well down the right and cut the ball inside to Mark Vickerage but he shot straight at the 'keeper from just inside the box. Minutes later a quick free-kick saw Troy Bennett feed Phil Lindley inside the box but his shot under pressure went just wide of the right hand post. The Blues took the lead on 13 minutes when Gary Hatto's left wing cross was dropped by home 'keeper Codd and WALKER did well to slam the loose ball past 2 covering defenders into the bottom right hand corner. Glasshoughton then started to come more into the game after this with Martyn Woolford breaking into the box from the left but shooting straight at Marc Shackleton. On 21 minutes Shackleton got down well to push an angled shot from Dominic Blair (who played for the Blues at Harrogate Railway a few weeks ago) away whilst Martyn Woolford put the loose ball over the bar from a tight angle. On the half hour Lindley took a knock and was replaced by Chris Fawcus. Two minutes later Blair sent over a cross from the right that Parker fired into the net from 15 yards to level the scores. Just before the break a poor clearance from Shackleton fell to Bradley but his effort was straight at Shackleton.

Frickley regained the lead 7 minutes after the break when Vickerage pulled the ball back to Bennett on the edge of the box. His side-footed shot beat the 'keeper but came back off the inside of the post but WALKER followed up to score. Shortly afterwards Shackleton was in action again as he pushed away a 22-yard free0kick from Martyn Woolford. On 57 minutes Martyn Woolford sent over a free-kick from the right which was glanced in  by Parker to tie the scores for the second time. Two minutes later Steve Robinson fouled Woolford in the box and Bradley scored from the penalty spot. After committing a series of  fouls Fawcus was replaced by Jamie Thompson on the hour mark with Benn dropping into the defence. On 76 minutes Thompson met a Bennett corner with a powerful header but his effort was tipped over the bar. A minute later Glasshoughton substitute Newton tried his luck from 40 yards with Shackleton out of his goals but the ball struck the left hand post. Two minutes later the scores were level again as this time it was Frickley's turn to be awarded a penalty when a home defender clearly handled in the box. Hatto stepped up to send the keeper the wrong way from the spot. However, there was still time for the game's third penalty to be awarded in the 83rd minute when 2 Blues' defenders sandwiched Bradley as he surged into the box and went to ground. Bradley dusted himself down and scored from the spot.
