Thursday 7th August - Glasshoughton Welfare 2-4 Frickley Athletic The Blues bounced back from Tuesday's defeat to Farsley Celtic by quite comfortably overcoming their NCEL Premier Division opponents despite Phil Sharpe fielding almost entirely different sides in each half. Frickley set their stall out early on with Steve Robinson heading Gary Hatto's left wing cross just wide of the right hand post after just 5 minutes. Two minutes later Frickley took the lead as Lee Morris headed the ball into the path of CURTIS BERNARD who looked up and curled a perfect shot into the top right hand corner from 25 yards. The lead was almost doubled on 11 minutes when the ball fell kindly to Chris Kamara in the box but his angled shot went agonisingly wide of the left hand upright. Three minutes later the scores were level when the hosts broke quickly following a Frickley corner for their centre forward to break clear and place a well struck shot into the net from outside the box. However, Frickley were soon back on the attack with the home keeper pulling off a good save to deny Bernard following his shot on the turn. On 27 minutes Hatto shot just wide after Robinson teed him up on the edge of the box but 4 minutes later the deserved second goal came. Antony Jackson met a corner from the right with a powerful header which struck LEE MORRIS almost on the line and went in. Just before half time Sharpe and Remo Nesa exchanged words with Nesa being replaced by Ryan Till and then storming off to get changed. On the stroke of half time Morris robbed a defender in his own half before feeding the overlapping Till whose angled drive flew just wide of the left post. Half time saw Sharpe replace all the side that started with the exception of Robinson. This saw the introduction of, amongst others, Lee Pugh, Mark Vickarage, Paul Hurrell and Adam Russell. It wasn't long before HURRELL got his name on the scoresheet as on 52 minutes he held off two challenges to advance into the box and scoring, albeit with the aid of a deflection. On 65 minutes Glasshoughton again pulled a goal back, scoring with a well taken header at the far post following a deep cross from the left. However, Frickley soon restored the 2-goal cushion as on 77 minutes BRENDAN WEST (a former Frickley player who has been out of the game for around 18 months) fired in from close range following a corner from the left. Frickley Athletic (1st Half) : Amir, Richards, O'Brien, Kamara, Jackson, Marquis, Robinson, Nesa (Till 44), Morris, Bernard, Hatto.
