Tuesday 15th October - Frickley Athletic 2-2 Gainsborough Trinity

Phil Sharpe introduced Duncan Richards, a right full-back from Goole AFC, to the side whilst Curtis Bernard has returned to the club from Harrogate Town and was on the subs bench. Mark Samways returned in goal and Andy Evans was partnered up front by the much travelled 39 year old Gary Hurlstone.

Playing into a strong wind and rain, the Blues found themselves a goal down with only 81 seconds on the clock following a Trinity break down the left by Luke Staton, His cross was dummied by player/manager Phil Stant to Colin Alcide who turned and shot into the bottom right hand corner from around 6 yards. The Blues were struggling to make much headway into the wind but a long ball from Chris Gowen saw Remo Nesa break clear down the left but Barry Richardson rushed out to hoof the ball clear. With chances at both ends at a premium, Trinity forced a corner on the right which hit the outside of the near post, although Samways looked to have it covered whilst at the other end Mark Hancock's 25 yard free-kick was caught by Richardson at the second attempt. As half time neared the Blues managed to force Trinity back inside their own half much more but the final ball in and around the box always let them down.

Almost straight after the restart Hancock saw his 20 yards shot parried by Richardson but Trinity soon broke away to extend their lead on 50 minutes, with Lee Ellington drilling a low shot through a crowded box and past Samways. Hurlstone then sent Evans away down the left before cutting inside and laying the ball off square to the on rushing Nigel Hemstock but his shot was high and wide. Sharpe then made a triple substitution, replacing Hurlstone, Craig Elkin and Hemstock with Lee Morris, Bernard and Williams. This gave the Blues more urgency in in attack but it was Trinity who almost scored again when a good run by Staton saw him feed Stant but he dragged his shot wide from 18 yards. On 63 minutes the Blues finally managed to pull a goal back when Gowen played the ball down the left to EVANS who cut inside and shot into the top right hand corner from 12 yards, giving Richardson no chance. Bernard then had a good chance to equalise when the ball boblled a round the edge of the Trinity box before ricocheting off a defender into the path of Bernard who was on his own just inside the box but his shot went well wide of the right hand post. On 80 minutes Nesa did well down the right before letting Williams take over and ride two challenges on the edge of the box before putting a low shot inches wide of the right hand post. But on 86 minutes the Blues got their richly deserved equaliser. Nesa beat his man down the left before sending over a cross which found its way to JACKSON at the far post who tuned and shot past Richardson from 5 yards.
