Monday 2nd January - Farsley Celtic 0-1 Frickley Athletic Alex Callery scored a last minute winner as the Blues beat Farsley Celtic 1-0 at Throstle Nest this afternoon to notch their second UniBond League 'double' of the season and move up to third place in the table. However, the win came at a cost as Steve Kennedy was sent to hospital with a suspected broken jaw following a challenge after just 11 minutes. Gary Marrow made two changes to the side, with the fit-again Matt Daly returning at centre-half in place of the injured James Stansfield whilst Lee Morris made way for Phil Lindley as Marrow opted to bolster the Blues' midfield against a strong Farsley side who have hit form in recent weeks. The Blues received a blow after just 11 minutes when captain Steve Kennedy received a blow to his face in a challenge with a Farsley player and was referred to hospital. He was replaced by Andy Evans who partnered Rob Pell up front. Almost immediately the Blues had claims for a penalty waved away as Callery looked to be brought down in the box by James McDaid. The home side had their first chance after 22 minutes when Daly's poor back pass almost let in Scott Jackson but Gary Ingham was out quickly to block Jackson's shot with his legs. On the half hour Callery whipped in a free-kick which Pell headed just over the bar as the Blues looked the more dangerous of the two sides, although the prolific Kevin Sanasay blazed over the bar from 18 yards for Farsley on 40 minutes. Two minutes before half time Martyn Woolford teed up Lee Pugh but his 18 yard shot was easily dealt with by Paul Cuss. Callery had a good chance to open the scoring just 2 minutes after half time when McDaid's attempt to clear from Woolford saw him only succeed in sending the ball across the Farsley box to Callery who cut inside Martin Pemberton but Cuss smothered his 15 yard shot. Next Evans flicked on Steve Robinson's long throw for Pell but his snap-shot went just the wrong side of the near post. At the other end Pemberton tried his luck from 25 yards but his effort was straight at Ingham. On 68 minutes a good flowing move started by Nicky Heinemann which continued from left to right via Pugh and Callery for Robinson to send over a great cross which Pell met on the volley but the ball flew straight at Cuss. The home side finally started to enjoy a period of pressure during the final 15 minutes but the Blues snatched a deserved win in the final minute of normal time when Daly's free-kick was headed on by Evans for CALLERY to drill the ball in from 8 yards. The referee added on 4 minutes of stoppage time and the Blues had a stroke of luck right at the death as a 25 yard shot from Pemberton through a crowded box struck a Farsley player in front of goal and ricocheted clear. Fortunately, it seems Kennedy's jaw is not broken and he was discharged from hospital this evening.
