Thursday 26th December - Wakefield & Emley 0-0 Frickley Athletic The Blues battled well to earn a deserved draw at neighbours Wakefield & Emley despite being reduced to 10 men on the half hour when Paul Marquis was sent off following a foul on Michael Reynolds on half way. Marquis had already been booked so there could only be one outcome. Mark Hancock returned to the side after serving his four match suspension, with Andy Evans making way for him. Chris Newton partnered Curtis Bernard up front. The home side had the better of the opening exchanges but didn't really create any chances of note until after Marquis' dismissal. The Blues came close to carving out a chance for Newton on 18 minutes but he couldn't quite reach Chris Gowen's searching cross. Emley should have scored on 37 minutes but Darren Day headed well wide from 6 yards whilst on 50 minutes Steve Nicholson shot straight at Samways from 20 yards. Two minutes later Robert Tonks shot just over from 18 yards. The Blues responded with Bernard getting away down the left and cutting into the box but he shot wide. On 69 minutes Reynolds sent over an inviting cross from the left but Lee Ryan completely miss-kicked from 12 yards. Bernard got away down the left again on 77 minutes but he failed to spot Lee Morris' run into the box and instead ran the ball out of play. A minute later Morris shot over from 25 yards but right at the death Samways was forced to save a low shot from Ryan. Frickley Athletic : Samways, Richards, O'Brien, Woolford, Jackson (Nesa 85), Marquis, Hancock, Morris, Bernard, Newton (Evans 59), Gowen. Unused sub. Sharpe Attendance : ?
