Monday 21st April - Frickley Athletic 0-3 Wakefield & Emley

The pressure was taken off this game 2 hours before kick off when Blyth Spartans edged past Gateshead 3-2 in the morning kick off game which meant that Gateshead could no longer overhaul Frickley's points total. With nothing at stake the game had a typical end of season feel to it. With Antony Jackson passed fit the only change to the side was Curtis Bernard starting up front in place of the suspended Steve Robinson.

The Blues had the first sight of goal after just 6 minutes when a free-kick by Mark Hancock was half cleared to Steve Woolford who knocked the ball back into the box to Paul Marquis but his back header was tipped over the bar by Paul Cuss. Emley went close on 14 minutes as Ian Farmery nipped in front of Duncan Richards to meet a right wing cross but his header was straight at Mark Samways. Five minutes later the Blues ought to have been awarded a penalty when Curtis Bernard chased a long ball to get in front of  Danny Day just inside the box and was brought down for his troubles only for the referee to wave  'play on.' On 22 minutes Woolford found Russell in space to the right of the box but Cuss knocked his angled shot round the post. Woolford then header over from Hancock's free kick after a foul by Robert Tonks on Chris Gowen. The Blues had a let-off on 35 minutes when Samways sliced a back-pass from Marquis straight to Simeon Bambrook who promptly turned and lobbed the ball into Samways' hands from 6 yards! On the stroke of half time Woolford made a good run to get on the end of Hancock's chipped free-kick into the box but he headed straight at Cuss from 8 yards.

Wakefield & Emley started the second half the better of the two sides and Samways had to be alert to push a low 30 yard free-kick around the post and Andy Wilson headed wide from the corner. At the other end Bernard volleyed straight at Cuss from 15 yards after meeting Phil Lindley's chipped cross whilst on 58 minutes Russell was fouled 22 yards out but Hancock put the free-kick straight into Cuss' arms. Craig Elkin and Gary Reece then replaced Lindley and Richards but Reece's stay on the pitch lasted only 4 minutes as on 63 minutes he brought down Bambrook in the box to concede a penalty and was also shown the red card. Bambrook stepped up to score from the pot. The Blues pushed forward but without creating much, although it was from a Blues' corner that Emley extended their lead as a quick break lead to Bambrook turning inside Woolford to score past Samways from just inside the box. Five minutes later it was Emley's turn to be reduced to ten men as Nick Manaousios was sent off after receiving a second yellow card for kicking the ball away after the whistle had gone. Emley added a third in the last minute when Samways picked up a back-pass and the free-kick was played to Bambrook who drilled it into the top left hand corner from 15 yards.
